Free Updates for DV Rack to Versions 2.1.1570.0 (HD) and 2.1.1571.0 (SD)[11.7MB]

These updates are recommended for all users. This fixes the known RAM issue, among other items. For a complete list of all fixes, please check the Serious Magic website.

To get the update, open DV Rack, click on Help-Check for Updates. DV Rack will automatically download and install the update.

WARNING!!!

The update may automatically restart your system when done!

On one of my systems I saw a dialog that said "Update complete" with both an OK and a Cancel button. There was no explanation of what the two options would do, but I thought it would be odd to cancel an update at this point, so I clicked OK. Next thing I knew, a render of an Edius project I was doing at the time was gone, and other processes started closing as well.

On my laptop, I never saw any dialog following the update, it simply restarted without me making a selection.

ANOTHER WARNING!!!

You must re-activate after installing the update, and the bloody thing won't accept the activation code that was sent to me when I purchased the DV Rack 2.0 HD update.

Do I really need to point out how lame that is?

You shouldn't need to re-enter in any codes. The Softwrap system should walk you through to a different option, marked "Update." Just click the Update button, and your software will be updated without having to re-type anything.

It didn't. Not on my desktop, and not on my laptop.

When I run DV Rack HD, I am presented with the SoftWrap dialog asking me if I want to use the Trial, Upgrade (which takes me to a page asking for credit card info so it can charge me $795.00), or Activate a License.

It won't let me reactivate. I tried "Re-Install Existing License", as well as "Activate New License". I had it send me the activation details just in case I'm stoopid and can't cut-and-paste from the activation code I originally received, and Softwrap won't accept the activation code in the e-mail. I tried calling support immediately, but of course everyone is gone.

You can avoid the reboot by manually downloading and installing the patch through the links provided in this thread on our forum: http://www.seriousmagic.com/msgboard/viewtopic.php?id=29926

In literally scores of installs during the testing of this release, I never had any problem with Softwrap--selecting "Update" worked every time without requiring any key to be entered. I'm now testing what happens if you go down a different path.

Both the SD and HD versions are available as trials. Pay no attention to the version numbers shown in the email and in the downloads' filenames--in order to get this new trial posted tonight, we had to use the old version number, all of which will be remedied by our webmaster tomorrow.

EDITED: We've posted a new version that no longer automatically reboots after installing.

Here is what I did:

I started up DV Rack 2.0 HD, and even though the splash screen always says "Checking for updates", it didn't offer an update.

I therefore checked for the update manually, and that found the patch. I let it download and install it. When it was done, I got the weird "Update complete" dialog with the Ok and Cancel button with no warning that clicking Ok would restart the system. I assume Cancel would have avoided that, but it didn't say so. Also note that on my laptop, my system restarted automatically.

Following the restart, on both my desktop and my laptop, running either DV Rack 2.0 HD or the DVCProHD Decoder invokes a Softwrap dialog with the "Free Trial", "Upgrade Now", and "Activate License" buttons.

None of the options in "Activate License" work as they should. It defaults to the "Re-Install Existing License" option, and enters a License Holder of "SER". I tried keeping that odd value, put my name there, and I tried my e-mail address. In the "Purchase Ref" field, I put the Activation Code both with and without the SER prefix.

I pasted the "Purchase Ref" value straight from my original purchase confirmation e-mail. That didn't work, so I used the "Lost your Licensing Details?" option to have them mailed to me.

The Activation Code shown in the e-mail is the same as from my original purchase. By the way, you (or Softwrap?) need to get the terminology straight -- is it called an "Activation Code", or a "Purchase Ref"? Also, the information that was mailed to me doesn't include the "License Holder", that's why I tried keeping the "SER" default that was in the dialog, as well as my real name and my e-mail address.

I can update by installing the patch separately or choosing the update option from within DV Rack HD. Which is the preferred method? I want to avoid any potential issues. Thanks

Edit: Scratch that request.

Downloading the patch manually rather than using the "Check for Updates" feature will simply avoid the auto-reboot. Regardless of how you get and install the update, you will have to run the Softwrap gauntlet. To repeat, selecting the Update option should work seamlessly. Since THoff was a beta tester and several of those folks had special activation issues, I suspect that this is a ripple effect from however that was resolved. But that's just a guess.

The results are in from my first test: Selecting "Activate License," then "Activate New License," and entering my original installation key succeeded in getting the patched version up and running. I'll report tomorrow on the "Reinstall Existing License" path.

Well, for me neither "Upgrade Now" nor "Activate License" works.

"Upgrade Now" displays a form that wants to charge $795 to a credit card. "Activate License" rejects all combinations of names and activation codes I can come up with.

I decided to start over from scratch on my laptop, and I've spent more than an hour so far just getting the HDV Powerpak installed again. I installed DV Rack first, got a fatal error while trying to activate that, download the patch manually, activated DV Rack, put in the HDV Powerpak CD and installed that or repaied it, DV Rack still doesn't show up as having the HDV Powerpak installed, so I can't install the DV Rack 2.0 HD upgrade.

When your software works, it's great. Getting it installed in the first place and activating it is a major pain in the butt.

I installed the patch separately, from the link you gave in the forum.

rebooted, fired up DV Rack HD. Window popped up giving option to Free Trial, Upgrade Now or Activate Licence.

I tried the Re-install Existing Licensing Details, failed.

I tried the Activate New License method mentioned above, failed. In this case, I tried the Activation Code for DV Rack 1.0, HDV PowerPak 1.0, even the Purchase Reference given after initial v1.0 activation, all failed....... mmmmm

I do not have a direct install to DV Rack HD 2.0, as I acquired under the upgrade path.

I look forward to learn a procedure to get it running. I really do not like Softwrap thus far.

*** Edit: I also tried the DV Rack HD 2.0 Activation Code sent to me when I purchased on-line.... failed also.

After two hours of messing with different CDs, downloaded patches, registration codes, different activation schemes etc., I've had enough.

I'll try to get a hold of tech support tomorrow, but mentally I'm bracing myself for a long phone call and much of the same BS I just went through.

I don't know what TylerD is going to do, making a long international phone call to support would not make me happy.

I ran into the same problems when installing the update. Had to go through the Softwrap activation procedure again. I, too, had problems with "Reinstall Existing License". So, I tried "Activate New License", re-entered all my information and got lucky. But here's what I learned and I think this is very important:

1) If you attempt to use "Reinstall Existing License" and you attempt to paste your activation code into the "Purchase Ref" field it probably won't work because SOFTWRAP IS EXPECTING A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT NUMBER. Stupid scheme.

2) Do yourself a favor and when you install and activate 2.0 HD for the first time, print out the "License Details" when Softwrap gives you the opportunity. Why? Because you'll see what the "Purchase Ref" number is different. The difference is they replace the letters SER in your original activation code with the number 1. If you don't know this fact or forget to print the license details and you request the license details via email, they'll simply send you your original activation code which will do you no good.

So, if you try to "Reinstall Existing License" the fields should be:

License Holder: SER (which suggests a flaw because it seems this should be your name or email address)

Purchase Ref: 1-(followed by your activation code without the letters SER.
ex: 1-XXX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)

I have exactly the same problem. I installed through check for updates, installed the update, the laptop rebooted automatically and then when I restarted DVRack 2.0HD I got the trial/buy/insert your activation code screen. I found the email of my purchase, but it was confucing. Stuck in my email and code, failed. Tried the other code, nothing. Very confusing which code to use.

then asked for the info to be sent to me again via email. Not arrived yet. So DVRack2.0HD is currently out of action.

I would advise people not to update this just yet if you need to use the program in the next few hours. Perhaps SM need to look at it again, as there is obviously a glitch in it.

UPDATE: I have received the email from softrap with my activation code. It doesn't work. I am now stuffed until SM get into the office to sort out this problem. Bet I am not the only one!

I had to do an activate new license on the updated SD version as well. The activate existing code was completely hooped. Didn't work at all.

Looks like Serious Magic are going to arrive at work and be snowed under with customers asking how to activate their product!

PrestonH, I tried your method and it didn't work.

Sorry to hear that. Looks like it's a total crap-shoot then. "Activate new license" is the only thing that worked for ME with surety.

Wondering if there's differences in results between those that install the upgrade from 1.0 and those that have bought for the first time. In my case, I was doing an upgrade, then the update.

I entered Licence Holder as "SER" and when I tried this method, adding the "1-" to Purchase Ref, resulted "Activation Failed - 2006-10-17", whereas when I had entered the License Holder as "SER" and Purchase Ref without the "1-", resulted "Activation Failed - Activation Code not recognized. Please check that you have entered the details correctly."
