I'm trying to get started with my video career, I install sony vegas 8 and I plug my dvx100a into my computer but when I hit capture it says plug up device I have it On vcr mode I have a pc so I enable my firewire. So it's either two choices I have the wrong cable (but on the cable it says 1394) or I guess the device on my dvx100a is broken and Where can I take it to see and or get it repaired (I live in memphis tennessee. Please help me or give me some kind of advise.

Get a small, little camcorder that you would get at your local video store...Use this to capture. It will save the heads on your DVX, and give it less wear and tear.

Now, this isn't the cause for your computer not recognizing your DVX.

Turn your camera off. Plug in the firewire. (make sure it's plugged in the computer :))

Then turn your camera on, and go to VCR mode.

Next, hit capture now, and it should be fine, if the cable and camera is in good condition.

Good luck,

Robbie

If I get a small camera how do I use it to capture and save the heads on my dvx. and I tried everyting where can I take my camera to see and or get it repaired at.

However, I would be surprised if the DVX was the problem...are you able to play back your tape on your DVX? If it plays back OK, then it's not your camera. Plug it in again, making sure the connection is good on both ends, and then click the "capture" icon on Vegas...a dialogue box should pop up asking if you want DV or HDV...pick DV and then it should bring you into the capture screen. Have you gotten that far?

You know what I might got the wrong cable then some idiot at circuit city gave me the cord and said it was it, it might not even be a firewire cabel/ okay where or places I can get a firewire cable from, also when I plug it in to the computer it fits kind of loose and when I push my computer back it unplug on its on ?what do you think about that?

you know what mind looks just like that so I guess that mean I having problems huh. where can i get my dvx fixed at?

I still don't think that it's your camera...can you play back the tape in VCR mode on your camera? Can you watch your video on the LCD screen on your DVX?

He may have a fried firewire port on the camera. That could explain the problem.

man thats not cool!! er i was told to never plug in anything while powering up! that means computer too!!

check that your firewire is listed in devices and have the correct driver!!
and make sure you have that network thing correct i forget what it is but its a microsoft thing like a software plug or soem kind of?

try a freinds computer too and i guesse a decent firecable is 30-40+!
a camera tech will tell you nothing is wrong and charge you 110$ for the inspection?

look for drivers and possable a bios thing on your motherboard!! or bust out 20 bux and get a fire card pretty cheap to test take it back if possable!!
