Dumping to HDD in field

Right now we have one 16g and one 32g P2 cards. Have a MacBook Pro and DeulAdapter system. We will not be doing any field editing at this point, but do shoot a considerable amount outside. Already had the MacBook Pro so it is just going to be used to transfer footage to and then backed up to a portable HDD. Then will use the portable HDD to get footage onto the actual editing machine. In this scenario is do I need a HDD with firewire or is USB2 sufficient?

I'd go to a Firewire 800 RAID- well actually two drive to have a backup. USB-2 is just so slow on Macs especially with hard drives.
