Ok guys a novice question. What is the best way to move your footage from P2 cards to PC or laptop? I'm editing with premiere CS3 But only have it installed on PC. I have P2 Viewer installed on both is there a command I'm missing in the P2 viewer that dumps the footage or is it just copy and paste the contents folder?
Thanks

You can copy & paste the contents folder if you want, but it's better and safer to use P2 Viewer to do it. Establish a new destination folder as a "virtual card"; show the secondary bin and choose your virtual card as the secondary bin, and then drag and drop the clips from the card to the secondary bin's virtual card.

Not all programs need it. Technically it is only needed by the camera so it knows where it left off when you stopped recording.

But with several GB worth of data on the cards, why try to economize on a file that is just a few bytes in size?

I always include the lastclip.txt file.

You never know when you may need to access that archived p2 volume on a different OS or with a different NLE.

You might want to look into P2 Forge - http://www.lightstir.com/p2forge/ -

Its $45, they were running a 50% off coupon if you took a small survey a while back. Dont know if they still are.

Its pretty robust. I havent had time to dig all the way in, but I used it on a commercial shoot recently to offload to an external drive via laptop and it was impressive, very impressive.

If they ever port it to macos that would be magnificent.

I took advantage of the 50% off thing. Cant say Ive been happier with a $22.50 purchase (regarding my HVX).

Hope this helps you in some way!
