i'm surprised that they released it without having a solution for running it on 10.4.9.

Not just mac, issues with Windows XP as well. Doesn't run on any 3 of my XP machines. A bit of a let down so far.

Oops, i forgot to mention that. I did read above about XP. Seems like they were late delivering product already, and they maybe rushed it out without some drivers ready to go.

Duel Adapter

Duel Adapter

Received mine this morning. Installed the driver on my MacBookPro running OS X version 10.4.8. First try didn't work. Found the link here to the newer Panasonic driver download. Installed that and worked fine. Took about 5 minutes to copy 7 gigs from an 8 gig card in both the finder drag and drop and with P2 Genie. Guessing a full card will take roughly 6 minutes? Didn't test reformating yet. Works fine with FCP 5.1. Haven't had time to test further with WinXP for example.

so it's not going to work with 10.4.9 yet?

i guess i'll wait for a while then. bleh.

it worked on cynic821's mac. he tested it on 10.4.9, however looks like he's the only one so far.

His post seems to indicate that it works in Windows using Boot Camp on his MBP... not on his Mac side of the MBP. On 10.4.9, it is not recognized at all... in fact plugging it in can cause a kernel panic on occassion.

On another note, there is another issue. The cable on this thing is very thick and non-flexible. The Cardbus 34 slot has no lock... just a spring loaded catch. The act of inserting and removing cards will pull the connector out of the Mac's Cardbus slot. I think they should use cable that isn't as stiff, but in the meantime, I'm going to run it straight out parallel to the Mac, so I can minimize the number of times the cable pressure pushes in on the connector, which releases it.

Got an email from a pr person. She did not confirm any expected date for a 10.4.9 driver.

I had planned a review, but that's not possible w/o updated drivers.

The adapter does NOT work, I'm running 10.4.9 and the INSTANT I plug it in I get the mac restart screen. I'm a little disappointed with Duel systems not updating their drivers ASAP.

I've heard people with XP are having issues as well.

In the doc's they mention not to plug it in until the drivers are loaded. I get a kernel panic as well when I tried it once without the drivers (at Jan's request).

I just got an email from Jan. She says that Duel says that with the driver loaded in 10.4.9 that it works. Problem is, when I insert my disk, it won't let me install the driver... I get an error message saying that this is only for 10.4.8.

Has anyone gotten the driver to install from the CD/DVD provided?

maybe you need to install the driver in 10.4.8 and then update to 10.4.9, which would be really really annoying.

that might work.

no, i installed them on 10.4.9

How did you do that? When I insert the disk and attempt to install the driver, I get a dialog box telling me that

"This package may only be installed on Mac OS 10.4.8"

My version on the CD is 1.0.3

I dont have the retail version, i am / was a beta tester. no one wants to share a pic of the retail unit?

okay it seems the installer is doing a system nuumber check, correct? ( those under 10.4.9 can't run it becaus it wants 10.4.8) Has anyone else tried the 10.4.8 version drivers under 10.4.9? If i get to it, I'll boot up my backup on an external firewire and update it to 10.4.9 to see if old drivers work or not. I have the drivers I can post if anyone wants to try it before i can get to it, or just usePpacifist and extract them yourself?

I have tried the current driver 1.0.3 and the older 1.0.2... and both are prevented from installing under 10.4.9
