Duel-Systems Adapter has been officially released

ExpressCard protocols are much faster the PCMCIA. PC laptops are moving to EC.

Nobody's hungry or wants "our attention."

Standards and protocols change. There are a bunch of options for off loading.

I don't realistically believe Apple or any PC manufacturer is willing to return to PC card slots; although I wish they would offer it as an option

I agree. Apple and the other vendors do need to move on with the technology. (If you look at my post I say that I understand that).

However, I bet if you talked to the Apple marketing folks, they would tell you that they did not anticipate the P2 juggernaut.

And I also bet if you talked to the Panasonic marketing folks, they would also tell you that they did not anticipate the impact of newer memory options.

(I have an opinion on the internal corporate battle between Marketing and Technology. See any Dilbert cartoon)

But, you know what? I've made the investment in the Panasonic...as have a huge percentage of the industry...so It's not just me.

I've also made the investment in FCP which requires an Apple.

Yes, I have work-arounds for the technology...but I just want to make films...not fuss with the technology.
 
I got my duel adapter today. Ran into the same crap that everyone had with macOSX 10.4.9. This sucks. Why did this company do this? i got suckered for $120.00. You buy something... Its supposed to work. end of story.

But right now i'm sick of complaining.

I've been doing it all day since i opened the box. Has anyone got a hold of Duel Systems? I cant. Is there any SAFE solutions to fixing this mess? I cant afford to screw with my system. To many projects and work rely on my mac to operate correctly.

And don't tell me to install XP on my mac! I hate XP. I bought a friggin mac to use mac OSX for godsake!!
 
No prob...you were correct on the technology moving forward.

I downloaded the Vegas and Raylight demos to my PC laptop. Wow! The P2 integration is phenominal.

That's what I'm hoping for with Apple.
 
Well, I can say that duel-systems has just lost a customer. After hearing all of this, I've decided to put the 120$ towards a crappy little laptop with a PC card slot.

Releasing a product with this many problems is inexcusable and they do not deserve a second chance.

End of story from me.
 
Dual, what an amazing product.
I did some firefighting yesterday with a collapsed P2 workflow. Left my P2Store at home for the first time and took the Dual adapter instead. A Panasonic bigwig was there aswell, very impressed with it.

And it just flew along. Fast and zero issues.

10.4.9 an a Macbook Pro C2D, via pacifist.
 
does that mean all i need is to get on of this adapter and hook up with my Mac Book Pro instead of buying that expensive P2 cards?
 
Eh, no. I still needed the cards to put into the adapter. The adapter was just adapting the cardbus slot to a PCMCIA (P2) reader. Sorry to dissapoint there.
 
I did the Pacifist fix, and it works perfectly, just REALLY WISH they would make the official patch for 10.4.9

Watch the kernel panic thing. I did it to prove the issue exists. My MBP has been running really slow since then and I had to repair the boot disk. Finally today, I had to do an archive and install back to 10.4.8 (the original discs) to fix this Mac. Now the machine runs at full speed again under 10.4.8. Naturally, the Duel adapter works as well.

So, I recommend highly that you follow Duel's instructions and NOT attach the adapter without the driver installed.

Now, do I upgrade to 10.4.9 and see if it still works. Decisions, decisions...

This is what you experience when you don't have the Panasonic P2 drivers installed. Do you have the Intel driver installed?

I can remove & reinsert as many times as I want with no rebooting. However, once you remove the Duel adapter itself from your Mac, you have to reboot the OS !

Same here. Duel claims they will fix that in the future as well...
 
Got it working using cynic's 10.4.9 driver plus the Panny MacIntel drivers. I installed oth the P2PCCard installer as well as the AJ-PCD20 installer. Working now without a hitch. Thanks, cynic.
