Duel Adp. not working...

After a long and successful run my Duel Adaptor stopped working.

Here's my workflow:

Usually two 16 GB cards.
MacBook Pro 2.2 with 2GB of RAM, running 10.5.5
I believe I have the latest drives for the P2card, Duel, QT, etc...
I transfer to an external drive (FW800) using P2CMS (still trying to understand this "peculiar" program but it worked so far). I'm considering trying the new ShotPut P2.

Until, yesterday, the cards were not mounting anymore.
I got the icon on the top when I plugged the adaptor in, but the cards don't mount. I've tried rebooting without success.

Again, just as a reminder, it has worked before no problems.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Two thoughts. Could be a faulty duel adapter. That previously happened to me. Something in the cable or connection just wears out and ceases to function correctly. This is likely the case if you do not see the slot activity icon in the upper right hand corner. Second possibility is something is askew with the duel adapter software. Recently I switched from HVX200 to HPX170 in doing so updated the P2 driver software. Now I have to restart the computer everytime I want to mount a new card.... if you try removing the duel adapter even after it has been ejected you are asking for a full scale Mac crash requiring hard restart.
You can try a new Duel Adapter if all the latest software is loaded. If anyone has suggestions on the latter issue I would be very appreciative.

Thanks

Thanks Digimark, I'm getting the icon on the upper left corner and the adaptor seems fine as far as cable connections and such.
I've heard issues about crashes and malfunctioning and hopefully these can be addressed.
As soon as I have some cards on my hand I'll try to reinstall the software and see if works.
Anyway itt doesn't look good.

Exact same problem with me. I only used P2CMS for a confidence check - but the essentials are the same.

How recently did you upgrade to 10.5.5?

I called Duel - they were no help.

I bought a new Duel Adapter - it didn't work either.

I messed around with drivers and such, nothing worked.

I wound up buying a PB G4 on ebay because it has the PCMCIA slot. That has worked but it has presented other issues i will deal with in a different thread.

Good luck

A few ideas…

Use Disk Utility to "repair permissions" and restart.
Reset the PRAM in your MBP. (Restart while holding cmd-option-p-r, I think. You'll hear three startup chimes, then let go of the keys.)
Reset the power management unit. (You'll have to Google this one, as I don't remember the procedure.)

One of these may work. I couldn't tell you why or how, but sometimes they resolve conflicts.

My Duel is back.
I have done pretty much all I could think of it, including all the above but the power management.
Unfortunately, I lost track of the procedures and I can't point exactly at what have made the difference. Lame!
Every time now that I use the adaptor I have been restarting before I plug in.
I've also went back to fix my permissions every week or so.

I'm not 100% certain with the product anymore but it has been working.

Generally when I use mine, I restart each time I need to plug the adapter in. But I offload all my footage after the day's shooting is done, so it's not a problem for me.
