I'm trying to import some footage I have on VHS to Final Cut Pro 5.0 using the AV->DV setting on the HV20, but I'm running into some problems. The hookups between the VCR and my Macbook are fine; when I go to Log and Capture, I can see the video running and the audio levels moving. However, because the HV20 generates no timecode while converting the signal, FCP displays "waiting for time code" whenever I press "capture" and does not capture any footage. Does anyone know a way around this? I'm considering just recording to miniDV and then capturing from the tape, but I'd prefer as direct a connection between source and computer as possible.
