dubbing HD footage to mini DV

I will be shooting an event with my HVX soon, 720p 24N, recording to a firestore hard drive. The client has asked me if I can provide him with the HD footage on mini-DV tapes.

As far as I know, the only way to record HD to a miniDV is using Sony's HDV codec. In order to do this, is it necessary to have a deck that supports HDV, or can I print the footage from a Final Cut sequence in HDV format using any miniDV camera or deck?

You need a HDV deck/camera to record HDV.


You can of course provide SD "dailies" of your HD shoot by downconverting to DV in camera.

even if you downconvert DVCpro to HDV you can't print HDV to tape via firewire as you need something like a matrox mxo to output the hd signal to a deck via composite
