Re: Dual Video card?

Nvida GeForce and Radeon 9XXX cards will do ya fine. If you don't need the latest and greatest, you're talking less than $150.

Just watch the hookups and make sure they fit your monitors. You may need a DVI to VGA adapter.

Re: Dual Video card?

David, Forgot to ask, can you split Vegas up on two different monitors? Maybe show the timeline on one while the other stuff remains on the other?

Re: Dual Video card?

Definitely.  All the tabs are removable; you can put them anywhere you want on the screen(s).  In Vegas 5, you can also dock them together any way you want in their own windows.

Re: Dual Video card?

What do you think about the Matrox Dual cards?
Matrox G550 AGP w/32MB Dual-head DDR $98.68
Matrox P650 AGP w/64MB Dual-head DDR $168.69
Matrox P750 AGP w/64MB Dual-head DDR $239.69

Company here in ATL.. All the Radeon cards they had.
Any of these Dual head?

ATI Radeon 9600 XT AGP w/128MB DDR/TV/DVI $165.69
ATI Radeon 9600 XT AGP w/256MB DDR/TV/DVI $185.69
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP w/128MB DDR $229.69

Re: Dual Video card?

If you have a network, you can experiment with dual-monitor by downloading MaxiVista, which is an inexpensive program that lets you use a second PC as a dual-monitor display.

It's not a practical solution for something like an NLE, because the update rate on the remote monitor is nowhere quick enough to handle full-screen full-res video, but hey, it's a free download and you get 30 days to play with it...

Re: Dual Video card?

You can easily find a dual-head video card such as the ATI Radeon 9200 (128mb) for $50. If you're not concerned with gaming performance (but rather just the ability to use multiple monitors), those hi-spec cards won't be worth it. I've even set up multi-montor systems using Radeon 7000's (64mb) and it worked great. At $40 a pop, that's not a bad deal IMHO! :)

Re: Dual Video card?

Very true. Unless you also want to game (not recommended on an editing machine), all you really need in the card is the dual-head capability -- if you're using Vegas. Few NLEs use the graphics card for rendering/previews (though the WAX plug-in does take advantage of the video card, but as noted in the Vegas forum (thanks, Jive), it doesn't yet work with Vegas 5).

Re: Dual Video card?

Jive, found the cards you mentioned for $49.00. Appreciate your help also.
