I understand the main problem with using the mic input in DSLR's is the preamps are s*%tty. But if the problem of AGC is circumvented and you use either an external pre amp or even the preamps on an external recorder, feeding the line out signal to your DSLR, then why is dual sound still necessary?
Does it have something to do with the bit rate, ie downsampling that occurs with the audio signal inside the DSLR?
I perhaps need to do my own tests, but skeptical that there would be any noticeable difference, especially for vocals recorded for interviews.
ie quality lav into a ZoomH6
line out from H6 into DSLR mic input (agc disabled)
compare audio recorded by Zoom with same audio received from Zoom in DSLR
