dslr rig comparison

Well there is one "rig" designed with the GH1 in mind from the start (enables battery changes without dismounting..etc)

It is available at Abel Cine Tech without the PL mount, as the Hot Rod CSH Package for $695.

It is designed and built for professional level work- so it's hardly fair to compare some of these other rigs to it.
I came across this rig few weeks ago. I think it’s well designed product with PL mount. I did not take it seriously because I had no plans to use a PL mount and was not sure if I can attach a quick release to this rig to set it on a tripod. In addition I would have liked more if there is some information about extendibility like adding top handle, follow focus etc. I guess I may need to do some more research on Hot Rod Rig and its options.
Thx

no dates yet on the indifocus rig...

no dates yet on the indifocus rig...

however the rig as is all uses standard indifocus components except for the top handle (the
basic top handle is currently built around the 5dmk2 - Tim made the small one especially for me - but now he has the right sizes he can start knocking them out for all the GH1 users out there...

and of course the stock (which I sent into him) - but you can just go for one of the standard shoulder mounts for that...

I have both but am currently experimenting using the stock.

as for connecting to a tripod - yes all these rigs can be connected to a tripod easily because the lower plate of the riser has a 1/4 20 and 3/8 16 threaded hole...

Indi stuff has two 1/4 20 and I know on mine I'm actually using both of them to keep it from slipping around on my plate...works really nicely.

Nickybee,

I like the c-grip handle. Is that an IndiFocus product as well? How does it attach (camera plate or to the rail)? When will it be available?

attachment of c-handle

attachment of c-handle

in my case it attaches to the riser...bolts to the top of the riser from underneath (which in turn attaches to the rails)

I'm sure there could be other versions...this is still a work in progress...

but it's solid as a rock - and you can mount accessories to it (lots of threaded holes on it)

;)

indifocus GH1 gear...

indifocus GH1 gear...

the reason for the slight delays are that Tim wants to ensure all the measurements and clearances are correct. he receives his GH1 on friday - after that there will be GH-1 c-handles and other pieces for sale...

I am looking for a handheld rig, don't want shoulder support. I've been looking at all the handheld rigs posted in this forum and in general I think most are overpriced, even for pros. One that looks very good for what I want and isn't expensive is the Manfrotto Fig Rig:

Someone with time and tools could DIY one based on a car or truck steering wheel.

The same as with other hand held rigs or steadycams; clumsy :-) But as just as I get my shots, I'll will be totally comfortable with that. What's there to operate on the camera anyway? There is no zoom, a half-press of the shutter button to trigger focus doesn't seem to be possible, so what's left is start and stop recording and I'm sure there are cable controllers for that which can be attached to the Manfrotto.

Show me a hand held rig that allows me to adjust exposure while shooting or pull focus without using a follow focus mechanic and I'll buy it. Or are you saying that you find all hand held rigs awkward? Then my answer is: it's a matter of choice. For what I do I can't use shoulder rigs or tripods.

Check out to gopod, very stable, you can adjust exposure and focus at the same time, I use it all the time along with the dv steady stick .
