Here's some stuff to get out of the way so this discussion doesn't go off into the weeds.
Would you buy a Red Camera Co product INSTEAD of a DSLR if they had a product in that price range?
So here's what I'd like to see from them for 1000-1500 (when their schedule settles down)
1080p Red Code (RAW)
24P only
In an the current Panasonic LX3 body/lens (24-70mm F2.0-2.8)
Heck...I'd even take 720P. This would be an ULTRA compact, fairly dumbed down (from a camera perspective) entry into Red Code and the Red paradigm as a whole.
So, my crystal ball tells me, that the preposterous comparisons between DSLRs vs Red will continue until Red Camera Co has a product that costs 1000-1500...no matter how dumbed down it is. Until then, DSLRs have a leg up on Red Camera co, on the cost front.
Cheaper isn't better, but shooting with a camera you can afford is better than fantasizing about one that you CAN'T AFFORD.
- Red Camera co can do what they want on their forum...PERIOD.
-That being said the REAL question about this is: Why do people continue to pose this question and make this comparison? 7d(other DSLR) VS Red? This is the real question....and I have the real answer. (I have a crystal ball, just to warn you all.) - Red Camera co needs to focus on ONE THING: GET EPIC FINALIZED AND START TAKING ORDERS. Other product lines to follow. No big deal....but anything else I just a WASTE OF TIME and effort.
- We all owe Red Camera co a HUGE "thank you", whether you use their products or not, they are continuing to shape a PORTION of the market place that makes it better for all of us. Just look back 24 months ago before the D90....to now with the AF100's future launch...Red has influenced these critical "movements" in our industry...I'm very thankful for that. (No, I'm not a "fan-boy", I'm not even planning to buy one when they do finally launch.)
