DSLR Geared Head

Just started the tooling on the latest project, a geared head specifically for lighter weight video cameras and of course DSLRs. Single speed, Hard anodized main gears with brass worm gears. 303 stainless main shafts and a total of 20 bearing in the thing. Its been my pet project for a good 2 years. Finally getting it off the back burner. Price with the 4" handles is 1899.00. I'm trying to source the bearings in bulk to get the price down as that is a large percentage of the cost. Still have a few weeks before the tooling is done to get a source, so the price may come down. Will not go up any, we wanted to stay below 2K, so it will not be more then that as it sits. Fits 75mm tripods, as well as 100mm and sits flat and has a 3/8-16 thread in the main drive shaft. So could easily be adapted to about any set-up.

That´s great news Steve.
I was waiting for this, since I spotted it on your website.

Any words on max load capacity?
I mean, will it only carry a DSLR or also my full rigged HVX, with adapter, recorder, monitor, batteries and all (30 lbs)?

Not sure on the weight of the production piece. Once the tooling is done and the production parts molded we will have an exact weight limit. That said my feeling on the curet prototype is easy 20 pounds. We planned for the use of 75mm mounts in addition to 100mm mounts. My guess is when using the 75mm mount the tripod itself will determine the weight limit. Really looking forward to getting this in the hands of shooters like you guys. DSLRs to the AF100 has really opened the world to amazing images, just need to fill the voids with affordable gear.

Looks great! I'd love to see a sample video to see how fast it can move. Look forward to seeing it in action!

For certain. I have some eccentric cams coming in (I hope today) to replace the concentric cams on the unit now. I want the ability to make adjustments to the unit namely the saddle and how it moves. As soon as they come in we'll shoot some video of the unit itself and of course put the 7D up there and shoot some video with it. Its a very addictive little piece of gear. I played around with it for most of last night. Put a laser pointer on one of our thin pads and made shapes with it on the wall. Diamond pattern seems to be the best at really training your hands to work with your eye. It reminds me of the old game of patting your head while rubbing your tummy. I got that same feeling when I first started using it.

Sh*t fire! (Sorry, I live in Texas). That is pretty freaking cool. If I were religious, I'd be praying for cheap bearings for you.
