DSLR + 35mm Adaptor?

There was a thread started a while back about someone putting a 35mm adapter on their DSLR. I'm looking into doing this myself, but I can't find the thread for the life of me... any help? :)

I'm sorry that what I do in my free time bothers you so much. I have a DSLR. I have access to a 35mm Adapter. From what I remember of the thread, it gave some pretty interesting results. I'm on this forum because i like cinematography and experimenting what the equipment I have available to me.

Now, if you'll refer to the initial post, you'll see that i'm not asking anyone for help in doing this process, I'm just seeing if anyone knew where the thread was and could point me to it. I don't really think I deserve to be belittled simply because I'm interested in something that you're not. But to each his own.

I remember the thread you're talking about and believe it was about a gh-2 or gh-1.

I can't seem to find it either, but I believe it was in the GH sections somewhere.

If you find it, bump it or link it here!

If you come across a thread that you don't personally feel is useful you have two options:

1) Report the thread if you don't feel it belongs on the site.

2) Ignore it, don't reply, and move on.

Let's keep the noise down, please.
If you have nothing constructive to add to a discussion, please don't add to it.

Thanks.

That's not the one i was thinking of but it falls under the same category so thanks for posting. I just think it looks like it could be fun to tinker with.

I dug back in the gh2 forum (i was looking in the generic HDSLR forum) and found the thread I was thinking of btw, in case anyone is interested: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?291133-Is-this-madness-No-this-is-BREVIS!!!!!

Yep, that was me :)

Haven't messed with the setup since then. Contrary to some preconceptions, it's not especially huge (about the same size and a bit lighter than, say, a GH2 + Nikon 80-200/2.8) and, IMO, not absolutely pointless on that degree of crop sensor if I was looking for that particular character. Light loss wasn't too severe considering I had the intermediate lens all the way down to f4... it's still more light sensitive and less noisy than pairing the Brevis with my HVX... has a distinctively different-yet-similar look than, say, a 5D3, and it cost less than a decent dinner for two.

All that said, with most of my work being documentary, corporate, science, & sports, there has been no call whatsoever to use this. Oh well, it'll reside happily in the "someday" box with my pinhole apertures, CCTV lenses, macro bellows, and sundry paraphernalia.

So you'd still recommend the 55/3.5 macro lens? And do you know if the tube based vibrating 35mm adapters are better than the spinning glass ones?

I use the 55/3.5 because it's what I have - with the GH2 (or other m43), a slightly wider macro lens might be preferable, such as the 45/2.8 or 50/2 macro. A faster macro would also help light sensitivity. I'd definitely stick with a macro, though... my results with normal lenses or ETC'd wide lenses were poor (vignetting from whatever or softness from adding close-up diopters)

I used the vibrating tube adapter because that's what I got cheap. I have no knowledge nor inclination to compare and contrast the different available brands and how they work.

A BMCC and 35mm Adapter TEST would be much interesting. I always wonder how it could end up as this would eliminate the need and problem of the crop factor for once....and BMCC seems to have better DR and resolution to counter the 35mm adapter softness and light issues.

I wish all the best anyway.

P.s. I do have 35mm Adapter SGBlade until today in case you want to buy it off my hand though.

Spinning glass is best but vibrating glass is perfectly functional. Both are worlds better than static glass. You might benefit with pairing your intermediate lens with a diopter, preferably an achromatic one to correct for CA although it might not be too bad. You will probably only need a low strength one with a 35mm intermediate at a guess maybe a +2 or +3. I use mine with a HVX so need a +7, the DVX used a +5. As an alternative to a macro lens perhaps another cheap option that might work is to use macro extension tubes. This would allow you to experiment with intermediate lenses. For some reason I feel a longer lens will result in a flatter focus on the ground glass but that's pure gut, no real science.

Let us know how it turns out. I don't have a DSLR at this stage but I'm definitely considering getting one as a B-camera and for stills, probably a GH2. I was planning to try this out myself, like you for no other reason than I have a spare 35mm adapter and it otherwise just sits on the shelf.

I think the numerous potential design flaws of the 35mm adapters can yield interesting results. Worth playing around with.

Thats the one!

Awesome thread.

This is pretty cool stuff, especially for those of us who have the adapters sitting around
