Drug Fueled Finale

I'm also a little against the excessive glow/haze look some people do, but I think that it actually looks pretty good here.

Anyway, my only real problem with it, is the acting and makeup/hair. That girl just looks a little too comfortable with that alcohol and pills. If they're going to do something like that, I think that they should probably look pretty much like they're hanging by their last thread.

Good film overall though. I enjoyed it. Especially the music!

I don't know why, but that one really works for me. The others are little over-done, but I like this one a lot.

wow looks awesome. care to tell the prests forthe magic buller?

Umm...if you read previous posts you will notice I only use Magic bullet for a yellow edge - no presets. And I used misfire. The bulk of the work is Vegas. In fact you can do everything I did here with Vegas and photoshop.

I tried to do this in Premiere, but you can't :Drogar-Shock(DBG): !

In fact I have not used Premier since version 1.5 and version 3 better be off the freakin' reservation for me to leave Vegas.

Vegas does tons of compositing tricks and has some really neat plugins.

Premiere has AfterEffects. Wich costs like another frakin $1000.00.:Drogar-Angry(DBG):

And I don't have to render all the time to preview in Vegas. It will run on a pocket calculator.

But, I do have AfterEffects and Magic Bullet, and InstantHD and DVRack. They are all wonderful.

But when you get right down to it, you can survive and do great work with Vegas and a little care.

And before you start on about FinalCut, I crashed it repeatedly in the store on 2 different Dual G5s. And it wan't any faster than Vegas on my laptop.

I bet it's really freaking good - I just haven't seen it done right. Neither, apparently, have any of the staff at the Mac Store. But they can sell me an iPod.:embarasse

So, for those of you still awake after yet another ramble...sorry I didn't use a preset. And I think it looked cool for the subject material to go in an other direction.

Hey Inoran - just so you don't have to read the whole damn post just for the good bit I pasted a copy of my earlier instructions:

Most of the look comes from rendering out the basic edit, pasting that over the top of the entire timeline, adding a gaussian blur and changing the blend mode. You should try it - the various blend modes are full of infinite possibilities.

I also used a variety of techniques to get closer to modern super8. I added an optical effect at every edit point to look like a bad splice and to make the edits slap the viewer a little harder (a sort of flash edit without the flash).

I also comped a layer of fog over the top to add some motion to the grain patterns, this is subtle, but you really miss it when you turn it off.

Try it and let us all see what you come up with.

Thanks Lawsuit and Billy!

Hey thanks Lawsuit (your parents really had your career mapped out for you). Yes you are right, but the actress is a last minute replacement for another girl who equally can't act either - so a special shout out to Katie (the director's now ex-girlfriend - kids, film and relationships don't mix) for stepping in at the last minute.

There was no makeup, and the actors were asked to bring thier own hair.

Billy - that's the shot I love the most and was the basis for screwing up the entire film the same way. Glad you liked it too.
