Totally fantastic Ryan!
Better than some stuff I've seen on TV.
The editing was very good because it moved the story along at a pace that matched the pace of the people telling their stories.
Too often I've seen edit styles that are too fast or too slow for how the subjects are conveying the material, and it really makes for "bumpy" watching. I hate that - and I see it on TV all the time.
Your audio was FINE. Seriously. Almost every speaker came across at the same volume and all the dialog was clear and definitely clean enough for this piece. That's what matters on a piece like yours.
I actually like the look too. Yes you can tell which pieces were done on the other cameras, but that added a good bit of character to the piece because it increased the range of experiences that is being shown. AND YOUR SUBJECTS ARE EXPRESSING A GREAT RANGE OF EXPERIENCES. Do you see how that enhances it?

If you had shot the whole piece on one slick-ass Hi-Def camera you would have ended up with something much more GENERIC looking. You follow me?
It would have looked too much like "Everything else".
Everyone is going for that clean, professional, hi-def look, right?
So if you did that here - your piece would have looked "Clean, professional, hi-def"....and just like everyone else's.

Score for you man!
You took a valuable story - one with some actual real meaning - and you found a way to get it across to the viewer in a very smooth, even-handed way so that the story and the people came out. Many slick camera jocks have no idea how to do that.
Look for more good stories... and you'll be on your way.

Peace,

wow man i actually really appreciate this comment, it really inspired me to keep moving. Yeah my whole thing with my DVX is yeah i could have a smaller HD camera and look exactly like everybody else, but i'd rather be myself, and be different, and stand out in a way that wasn't "slightly higher def than the rest" if you know what i mean.

i really appreciate the comments on the editing, that is what i've been focusing on in the past few years, and to get such a positive comment really does boost my ego and make me want to continue. I appreciate the comment dane, thank you!

Proactive! Really digging this, and it's nice to see a young mind like yours deciding to touch on actual issues. This thing is mad interesting and you have talent doing it. Keep it up man.

Sweet vid, I had this same idea! Except it was geared toward the Ecstasy epidemic @ dances because the schools crack down of being under the influence of alcohol.

PS. your boarding video was clean...
