C300: Dream... A new EOS C camera with RAW, high framerate, 12b and greater dynamic range?

I'm sure he meant Amira…

Edit: which by the way, ARRI seems to be hitting out of the park with that one. Looks like a really nice camera if you ask me. Is the price official?

Everybody's dream is an Arri Alexa or Red Epic for less than $10,000. A C300 with these features would be out of your price range as well.

Who said i have a 10000 limit?

Im more about the 20 or 25 000$ if at this price i could have a compact easy to use camera equiped with cheap storage media, good EVF, slow frame rate, 12b RAW, a Dynamic range close to the F5/F55, Epic or Alexa...

Dream: 1DC mkII

-10bit or higher...
-in camera live wave forms
-120fps in 1080, 48fps+ in 4k
-dslr form factor with a few more video customizable buttons.
-perpetual mirror lock up even after a power down, or no mirror.
-2+ extra stops in the highlights.
-raw option, at least in 1080HD
-slightly (1lbs?) lighter body
-hdmi, audio connector on top or back, so the wires are not sticking into the EVF and making a mess or forcing the evf farther from the center of gravity. (I would prefer this over a flip out screen, but it would be awesome if they could make a ultra slim evf to attach and swivel on the side of the camera, and power by the camera.)
-global shutter. (or somewhere in the realm of Red - Alexa)
- Slightly more slanted hand grip (even for shooting stills I dislike the straight up down grip, but only slightly more slanted, like 10-25 degrees more)
- Same low-light performance.
- Similar battery life.
- .9 in-camera ND option
-A better picture style editor and a customizable ps with c-log color base.

The C300 upgrade with some 10bit internal record. Canon produce AVCHD and 50Mbps long GOP records, would be nice to see the 10bit I-Frame only record (ProRes HQ and DNxHD185 10bit). C500 is ok with RAW option.

Dream: 1DC mkII…

I like what you're saying. I also understand that you said "dream mkII", so you're probably not expecting it.

10 bit should be doable, especially on output. I see no reason why it shouldn't be possible to send uncompressed 4k data via an appropriate digital out. Won't be the current HDMI-version, but I'm sure there are options that could work.

Before people start name dropping interfaces that WOULD work, it's important to understand that Canon probably likes the 1Dx/1Dc setup very much. That is: same camera beefed up with incredible sales margin. I am totally NOT expecting Canon to break the 1Dc out and produce a unique camera. They'll simply point to the other Cinema cameras for those needs.

But aaarrrghh! The beauty of the 1Dc is in the form factor. That IS its true feature.

The way I see it, Canon could differentiate a mkII 1Dc from the next 1Dx with higher performing internal components. The next 1 series body could be designed with the added cooling needs in mind from the start. Maybe small differences could exist between the logic boards?

I would LOVE the integrated ND-filter, but I'm not holding my breath.

More DR is always welcome. I feel the C100-500 cameras enjoy a native 12 stop sensor, whereas we 1Dc:ers get to 12 stops partly through voodoo. The 1Dx does not have 12 stops in raw. We DO get 12 real stops on the 1Dc, but it's in the way Canon Log is implemented via baked in HTP (or whatever) and forced minimum ISO400.

Canon could achieve much via a special firmware. And maybe this is the good news? There is nothing stopping Canon for getting a few extra things right already with the current 1Dc.

Top of my "realistic list" is a picture profile based on Log but with blacks going close to 0, where there is no intention to mix the files into a Cineon workflow as well as a time-lapse function based on the 4k video mode in order to not waste shutter actuations.

+ 1. a small LCD on the side that displays only WAVEFORM would be so nice ! I hate they overlap everything on one screen

Well even canonrumours has dampened hopes for any new bodies this year. I was going to get a C100 but the lack of 720 50p stops me getting it. So I want something with that and a better lcd screen more akin to C300. Problem with Canon is with so many bodies they are protecting one camera by disabling features right up the chain.

that 60i or 50i 1080p is totally usable, just create a 24p arri sequence, and drop the files in the sequence (keep existing setting) and slow it down to 40%.

wooooolaaaa~

no interlaced effect at all .

dont know why but it works just as 60p to me

Yeah, all dreaming. =)

DSLR bodies would be easy to swap out the S-L-R mirror box for an ND mechanism and an EVF instead.

Canon seems to be falling behind in DR. 11.5 stops DR is 'good enough', but far from dream. Something like the 16+ is dream, and 13.5 is my more conservative dream.

But yes, Canon will probably not develop a true Cine camera based on a stills camera form factor. All a dream. =)

The 1D-C could be a much better cinema camera with a firmware update. But that is all on the 1D-C forum: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?309966-1D-C-Users
Let me know if any of those update requests are confusing to read.
