Downloading CF card footage in 3rd world Internet Cafes?

I'm going to be filming a surfing project in Peru. I'm going to have a combined total of 84gigs of Compact Flash space.

I cannot bring a Laptop due to space, but I would like a way to backup my Compact Flash cards just to be safe, or if I have to erase some files to make space on the CF cards.

Does this sound like a good mobile back up plan. I will be most likely using old PCs at a 3rd world internet cafe.

1) Bring my Flash Card Reader
2) Bring a small USB Hard Drive (since USB seems to be the lowest common denominator).
3) Go to an internet cafe, hook up my Flash Card Reader and the USB hard drive and download the files from the Compact Flash to the Hard Drive.

Since I'm only a Mac person and know nothing about PCs (Peru is all PC), does this sound like a viable solution for backup?

What hazards are involved with this process? Should I worry about compatibility issues? What about Virus? I would hate to have a virus corrupt the CF cards and the Drive.

Do you guys have a better suggestion for a mobile backup plan? Have any of you guys ever done something like this?

Thanks

Anyway, your setup would work. USB card reader and HDD will work on their PC at least if they have WindowsXP and not older (e.g. win2000)

Yeah, I might try to make room for the laptop. The thing is, I got all my camera equipment and Tripod, my backpack for my stuff and a bag with surfboards. Plus, I'm there for a while, so gotta rely on public transport.

But damn... at that point what's another laptop? Hehe...
