Downconvert from Firestore to MiniDV. How?

I did a search and came up empty:

Is there an easier way to downconvert 720P footage off of an FS100 onto MiniDV tape other than placing all my clips in a timeline, render to dv format and export to tape?

I don't believe that's a built in feature of the Firestore. That said cutting in HD is a piece of cake with FCP. Why not cut your project HD then downconvert the final cut. Then you'll have an HD and SD version already completed.

Hi Noah

I am doing exactly that however, I also need to submit all my raw footage on MiniDV tape and was just wondering if there was a quick and dirty way to transfer it off my FS100.

I just did exactly what you want to do.

Create a new "DV-NTSC"- format timeline in FCP. Copy and paste your HD footage/Timeline to it .

Hook up your camera via firewire ( I used my HVX - this was the first time I put tape into it..but I digress) Put it in VCR mode. You'll need to hit the VCR transport record button here, NOT the camera record button.

In FCP, "Print to tape". You're now recording your raw footage as DV.

I'm sure there are other ways but, like you, it took me a while to find an easy solution.
