Hi all,
I decided to upgrade my equipment and I also have questions/doubts about video and dslr.
Just a little introduction about me...
I'm not a professional in video/filmmaking though I studied filmmaking and video. Mainly I'm self taught. I make short movies from time to time (I want increase this) and I love to shoot in my trips as perfectly as possible. So, I do need good equipment but not necesarily the best one.
Ok, so, I come from video filmmaking and I'm pretty new at dslr world. I own one Panny GH1 and one Canon XHA1.
Here my questions:
1) Do you thing I really need the Canon XHA1 or Panny GH1 is enough for my needs (short movies and “very good quality” trip recordings) ?
2) Panny GH1 is extremely difficult to operate handheld. So, I need a tripod with good fluid head. I'm looking at Vinten Vision Blue (first option), Sachtler Cine DSLR and Sachtler Ace. I read a lot about all three but I don't have it clear... I'd like something lightweight but (if possible) versatile if I have to record in windy situations. Which one do you recommend and why?
I would prefer not have to break the bank, but if I sell the XHA1 I will need...
3) Better audio recording (I own pretty good XLR mics: Rode NTG3 and Sennheiser lavs, for example) so I was thinking on field recorders (for short movies) Edirol R44, Fostex FR2LE, Tascam DR680 and Tascam HD-P2. Which one do you recommend and why?
I'm also looking at Zoom H4 but maybe I will get less quality? Any thumb up for this one and why?
4) Next step... the rig... oh my God... this list never finishes... Ok, it's not the most important thing I'm looking at. I mean, the quality of the rig is not the main worry for me... I'm just looking for something that can help me to operate the GH1 in similar way (I know the limitations) I do with XHA1. A simple but TRULY effective (no jitter, no wiggle) rig would be OK...
A rig around or below five hundred bucks with FF and Mattebox + 15mm rod support + top handle + possible to attach to the tripod, would be (im)possible?? What do you recommend?
5) Do you thing with these upgradings I'm not going to miss XHA1 or just a bit?
