GH3 Doubting to invest in M43's... Please think with me.

I happen to own 3 M4/3 cameras, but only own 1 native M4/3 lens. The point being, rather than investing in glass which only covers a M4/3 sensor, I have invested in glass which I can pretty much use on any camera.

I'm exactly the same at this point, and the only m4/3 lens I own is the kit 14-42. Still tempted by the Voightlander 17mm though.

And there is no 'quality loss' when mounting a aps-c / full frame Nikon lens with an adapter on a M43 sensor?
Nope. Actually you are shooting in the center of those lenses since the imager is smaller than the 35mm lens. Thats the sharpest part. The corners are where the issues usually show up.

Regarding lenses -- ebay can be your friend. Buy used, sell used. You can end up "renting" all your lenses for a year or two, for (comparatively) pennies. That's one nice thing about using a camera that shares its mount & lenses with legions of still-camera customers.

None of our lenses have manual aperture control... I've heard bad stories about adapters with their own aperture blades in them. What else can be done?

I carry around a Rebel in my camera bag at all times. Usually just for stills, but its great to be able to set the aperture on an EOS lens, pop the lens off while holding the DOF button, and throw it on a M4/3 adapter. Only downside is that you can't change aperture of the lens without removing it from the body again, but generally set my aperture and leave it for the duration of a shoot anyway.

This has worked well for me. I initially did it for the same reasons you state- I was unsure of starting over with a different (smaller) lens mount. This way, I could ease my way in by using all my existing EOS glass, and have been pretty happy continuing like that.

I found a shop in my city which sells a lot of old Canon FD lenses, old Nikor lenses, old Leica lenses, etc for reasonable prices!

I did read that older lenses are not as sharp / contrasty as modern lenses. What is your take on this? When I make the change from the 60D to the GH3, I do it mainly for the increase in detail and sharpness. Will those older lenses obstruct that?

KEH.com is a great source for used equipment. More expensive then eBay, but they honestly rate their equipment's condition.

It depends. Some like the look of older glass. They have character. It's very subjective. New lenses have modern coatings that help with flare and contrast so lots of advantages with modern glass.

Hell, I have a nikkor set of the 24, 28, 35, 50, and 85 that I spent less than $1500 on. Then I have my Leica set of the 35, 50, and 90mm. All of them adapt to M4/3's just fine.

Spendy, but if you manage to get some of the Leica lenses, you'll be set for a very very long time. Excellent optical and mechanical quality, and the R-mounts can be adapted to anything... and if anything, they appreciate in value.

Exactly. And when you go to sell them on ebay, you'll probably get about $1500 for them... so, in the long term, they're close to free.
I'll NEVER sell my Nikkors! They are going to be buried with me. And I'll eat my Leica's before thinking of letting them go. Most of these lenses are about 20-30 yrs old. They all work perfectly. My favorite is my Leica 50 f/2 german. Lovely lens! Long focus throw too...

Yep. I had a Leica 35mm f/2 (M) from 1978 that I bought for $1300 and sold for $1700. I miss my 35mm M glass. It was like looking at a diamond.
I'm kind of a lens whore. I easily have near $30,000 in still lenses. And I horde them too. I can't sell glass easily. I regret selling the 35mm leica M.

Haha! I love it!!! I have this vision of you in a small room surrounded by thousands of lenses and optical parts on your kitchen counter.

Watch out for dustyense on the next episode of Lens Hoarders when he moves in with David W. Jones and his two thousand cine lens package!

Wife talking.... Hey honey want to go to Paris for a little vacation?

No, I have to clean my front elements and I'm only half way through. :)

LOL. My wife watches hoarders and says my lens bank looks like we need to contact them for an episode.
This is just some of them I used the other day. 535815_4098234417488_1340195707_n.jpg

I have kind of slacked off in the lens whoring department lately. I have new computer, software, raid drives, and such I was trying to purchase before the end of the year so I could put them on my 2012 taxes. And I have been saving up to have my Speed Panchros rehoused.

Ok, so now I will be watching some GH3 footage for the upcoming days :P

So, you guys support buying cheap Canon FD primes and put them on the GH3 with a cheap adaptor? Will that give me a sharp image?
And for the wide end? Does that make a difference?
