COMMERCIAL: Doritos Commercials (Matt Sconce, Troy Ruff, Gary Sconce, and Shane Foster)

Pretty clever! :D the effects on the waterfall were kind of cheesy, but I think for the context it worked! Nice job!

To be honest, the screams during the waterfall fall got pretty annoying pretty quick. But based on previous Doritos Superbowl winners, they like over-the-top, loud, colorful concepts, so in that aspect it looks like you guys nailed it. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks guys! Cheese is Doritos middle name... Haha! It was fun and people seem to like it so I am excited to see how it does.

We do Doritos #2 tomorrow! Getting scary costume ready with makeup... Hypercam, boom, blimp, dead cat, zoom, GH13, batteries, lights, greenscreens, stands, clamps, Hyperchariot, bench, oh yeah... And DORITOS! (I think 5 bags this time...) Bluh, bluh, bluh!

I am working on an intensive prop for Pepsi MAX commercial #1. It is a lot of work and will be a one of a kind work of art when I am done. Troy wants to sell it on eBay, but I dunno... I think I want to keep it after all the intensive work... You will see it in the commercial... It's a ... (Shhhhh!)

Finished the shoot just a second ago! We had some actors fall through and ran into an old friend as he was shopping at the hardware store who agreed to do it one hour before we had to start filming! It doesn't hurt that he was a supporting role in Berkley with Henry Winkler and was also in a scene of Catch Me if You Can in the background behind Leo. Also he is an amazing musician who has had his work used in movies and on shows on the WB. Jake Newton! Yay!

My Dad, Troy and I frantically prepared the scene as Jake got into makeup.

Then it was time to film.

Success and wrap! We will post the commercial when it is done!

:Drogar-Vampire(DBG) Bluh, bluh, bluh! I laughed so hard last night when we were making this commercial. Thanks to Matt, Troy and especially the "Vampire in shining armor," accomplished actor and musician JAKE NEWTON!

We used crane, Hypercam and tripod mounted shots with the GH13. We used a Zoom for the sound, and everything went very smoothly. Lights were our own homemade Shocklights, and again they were amazingly bright and versatile. We shot in a forested area where we had a natural amphitheater and tall trees. We used three Shocklights for fill and one big one up on a 14 ft ladder for the 'moon'. We shot with a 20mm f1.7 Panasonic Pancake and 50mm f1.4 Nikon lens.

We had to move fast as a large Sierra Nevada storm was rolling in toward us. We watched the stars slowly disappear overhead while we were shooting. We finished the location shoot, loaded all up in two trucks and Matt drove the Jeep with Jake to our indoor greenscreen shoot. We planned the shooting schedule so we only had one greenscreen shot in the entire commercial to finish. Jake and Troy actually did all of that in only one take. Great job guys. We sent them on their way and Matt and I went into the editing chamber to our computers to upload the footage. We saved all and then posted the fun for you all to share. After Matt posted the above uncorrected screen grabs it started to rain. Good timing!

Jake is such a pro and really brought a comedic timing to the role of the Doritos Vampire. Both he and Troy were hilarious in the cute little farce we concocted. Here Jake checks out our first Doritos commercial, 'WATERFALL'.

As before, I seriously pilfered Doritos from the prop bags throughout the entire shoot. I love those things! It was true Providence that we ran into Jake Newton who just happened to be in town visiting his family for two days. Jake is one of those actors that has 'It'... The ability to have the camera love him and to get all of your attention when he is either on stage singing or acting on the silver screen. Here our Vampire gets ready for his takes. After this shot we balanced his makeup and went on to the shots.

Matt and Troy (who had to work at Apple this morning... poor soul) will be entering the 'Editing Chamber of Glory' this evening to edit this 30 second spot.

I can't wait to see it.

Troy will be coming up tonight bringing black powder for some cool vfx composite shooting. We should finish the edit today. Fun times!

:2vrolijk_08:
Waterfall was fun! and Stupid! Stupid fun!

You got it! It was meant to be fun, stupid, and cartoonish. Success! :2vrolijk_08:
Speaking of silly, fun, stupid and cartoonish... We are doing all of the final post for (Drum roll please...)

VAMPIRE - DORITOS.

We did all of the special effects shots for Vampire tonight. I built a kind of reverse trampoline where I lay under the rig and applied force to the bottom to explode things up in front of our green screen. We did many Doritos explosions and also did Dorito dust explosions too for use in VFX. After that we did fog shots for a layer of 'eerie.'

Matt converts the 4:2:0 image to 10 bit YUV 4:2:2 and the GH13 really greenscreens much more easily. If any of you are doing green with this camera this is a 'must do' for your post greenscreening.

Right now Matt and Troy are playing around with the timing of the Doritos mandatory music that we have selected for the 'Vampire - Doritos"

More later...

:engel017: Cut locked, VFX being rendered... Sound is left. I will be doing all the animal sounds.

Soooo Funny!!!

LMAO!!! Both of those commercials are hilarious and very clever. I can see both commercials playing during the Super Bowl. Seriously. Nice work, guys.

Wow Matt, did you see all the hits on the first day for Vampire? Man, that is double the speed of Waterfall. Honestly, I am not sure which I like better... We better do another one! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

BTW did you all like my crickets and werewolf howl? Hehehehehe! :violin:

I've watched alot of the other commercials and the only good, professional ones I saw were the ones that you guys did and the one from the other dvxuser. Seriously it looks like people are just grabbing any camcorder and throwing something together.

Thanks! I think we have a shot at the top 10 for sure and maybe the ad meter if we make it into the superbowl.

On another note, Holy cow! Troy and I had a breakthrough in the idea for the commercial we are filming tomorrow. Its epicness just went off the charts!
