Doomsday

One thing i am going to say:

I am going to see this movie. Doomsday and wanted are probably the only two films I'll go see in the theater this year with the exception of the next Warren Miller film.

I saw the teasers for this a few weeks ago and I just could not for the life me figure out what the movie was about, but I was very intrigued!! Now that I know about the story I am not so stoked about this, but I will probably go see it anyway. Unless someone posts here to tell me that it's terrible first. :)

See Madmax first and let me know which one's better... I'm hedging a bet. It appears to be a flat out rip-off of Madmax, hiding under a different title with the aforementioned EFNY similarities.

Thank you! That's the kind of response I would expect from a trailer like that. The last Mad Max was made in 1985, so younger kids who go see this movie will probably have no idea what Mad Max is.

OK, I'm seeing "The Road Warrior" in certain clips in the trailer, but there is also elements of "28 Days Later", "I Am Legend" and "Land of the Dead" as well.

"Doomsday's" mohawked/punk character looks like a pussy. He's no Wez or Ironbar, thats for sure. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I dunno, this movie could be good. I'm not going to jump to conclusions, but it doesn't seem to have much originality going for it. I agree, the "younger kids" are not familiar with the greatness of the Mad Max movies, so it seems like a good time to re-visit the "post-apocalyptic" film genre, at least from a financial standpoint.

I agree with the Mad Max / Escape from New York comments, but don't forget the car commercial. I can just imagine how that went:

"Neil, great idea for a movie, but we can't quite scare up enough financing."

"Well, then, how about we have our heroine escape from the mutants in an improbably mint-condition sports car, and get a shedload of money from the manufacturer for the product placement?"

"BRILLIANT!"

I haven't seen this movie. I'm kinda surprised everyone is saying ok things about it. When I first saw the trailer, me and my roommate both turned to each other and said, "Waterworld!" And later I decided they took waterworld and mixed it with 28 days later.

I've seen one of the mad max movies (i think it was the second one), and I've seen thunderdome, and as soon as I saw the trailer i was like "HELLO!" but i still hella wanna see it.

Well, I watched "Mad Max" and then "Doomsday." First of all, "Mad Max" is effing great and I can't believe I never watched it before. Secondly, "Doomsday" is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

"Doomsday" is kind of similar to MM, but only in the post-apocalyptic setting, the punk/biker bad guys, and one really fast car. It's not really a cops vs outlaws situation and revenge doesn't really enter into it in the same way - the story is much, much broader than that. It does incorporate a plot very similar to "28 Days Later," but the aesthetic reminded much more of "Underworld" than anything else.

It is definitely over the top and kind of ridiculous at times, but like I said, I thought it was so much better than it looked in the previews. I would not say that it is like "Waterworld" at all though, for those who read that comment above and shuddered (like I did) :)
