Don"t Use Realplayer

Just reformatted my pc after it was hammered by viruses. Then I downloaded a real player video. Then bam! ANOTHER VIRUS!
But it's not the first time, lots of Real Player videos have viruses embedded to them.
DON"T USE REAL PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Window Media Classics all the way. It'll play all the RP file format and it won't screw with your system.
 
I don't understand how Real can stay in business - not only is their software out of date but the competition (QuickTime, Windows Media, Flash Video and Microsoft Silverlight) are all of better quality and have a broader penetration. Apart from radio streaming which they do quite well I don't see any future for Real at all. And this is not the first time I've heard of the embedded virus issue although with some clever programming you can embed crap like that in all the other formats as well.

I'm currently testing out Microsoft Silverlight and I have to say so far I'm impressed. I know NBC (or was it ABC?) is going to launch a major "offensive" with Silverlight players and live streaming video. The quality is lights out compared to "old" WMV and the customizability and user interaction is far advanced of Flash Video. It remains to be seen if Microsoft manages to get a foot into a market that is completely saturated tho. We'll see.

Also Media Player Classic all the way. Installed K-lite Mega codec pack and quicktimer alternative and everything runs smoothly =)

Silverlight uses the old WMV 9 Advanced profile codec for SD stuff... VC-1 is WMV9, but complys with more standards.
 
I'm using my mac right now. My pc is currently dead. Reformatting didn't fix it. I need to reformat it again, then run AVG. Then reformat again, because AVG kills everything.
Viruses are getting stronger and stronger these days... But, I still use Pcs because they are nice to use occasionally.
