Hello all. I haven't posted on here in quite some time as I have not been working / shooting / editing at all. My friend asked me to shoot his bands CD release party so I decided to jump back in with both feet. This is a pretty big up and coming band so I don't want to screw it up.

We will be shooting with 2 HVX200's, with 2 8gb cards ( that I own )and 2 16gb cards ( that I am renting ). We will be dumping the cards straight to an external harddrive using a macbook pro and Duel systems adapter. We will not be dumping through FCP ( I am still running 5.0 ), just straight to the external HD. We tried this workflow and it worked well for the 8gb cards. I have not used 16 gb cards before and am worried that I will not have the proper firmware upgrades for everything. So I have a few questions for all you very helpful and knowledgeable pros.

1. I know i need to upgrade one of the cameras firmware to accept 16gb cards. Is it still the same process of downloading to firmware to an SD card and then loading it to the camera?
2. I have not used the Duel systems adapter for 16 gb cards. Do I need to upgrade the software on my mac so the adapter will accept the 16gb cards?
3. Has anyone tried this workflow and had any issues?
4. Any other advice? Anthing helps. Thanks everyone!

Really? No one knows the answers? The main concern I have is if the duel systems adapter needs to be updated to accept 16gb cards, as I have never used them before. Please people? I am searching everywhere but can't find a definitive answer.

Yes - everything that has not been upgraded to work with the 16gb cards should be upgraded. You should be up to date on your P2 drivers for your Mac (NOTE: This my cause your Duel Adapter to stop working with your MBP).

Get the 16gb cards and run a test BEFORE you go on location. Can you just get a bunch of other 8gb cards?

I have your exact set up (and used your exact workflow) and was happy until one day the Duel Adapters (I have two) didn't work anymore. I was caught in a software/hardware vortex of hades between Duel, Apple and Panasonic (There are many threads on here about Duel Adapters).

So now I use a PB G4 with Shotput P2 happily.

when I went to 16GB cards, I only upgraded the camera firmware, duel adaptor still worked, altho I'm on a PC.

your rental place should be able to upgrade your camera for you

Thanks everyone. Upgraded the Duel adapter to accept 16's, and afterward when the original files were copied to the external HD we couldn't open them with FCP. It was really strange. We tried everything. The workflow worked perfectly before the update, and then afterward we simply could not get my computer to see a file uploaded through the duel adapter. The only thing that worked was uploading straight through FCP. This made me nervous to do during a live concert cuz FCP loves to crash, but luckily, it went off without a hitch. I think I am done with the Duel Adapter, and am going to get a G4 Powerbook for offloading.
