Does this type of music fit my tone?

It's brutal dramatic rape scene. Not too gory or graphic, but shot in a brutal way of course nonetheless. I was thinking of using music that is of this type of emotional tone and mood: If you fast forward 5 minutes 10 seconds into the clip:

My DP says that that type of music wouldn't work and that it's too 'grandiose' for a dark dramatic rape scene. But in that scene they played the music during an execution by hanging. So if it is dark enough to for an execution, wouldn't the music be dark enough to work for a rape?

I feel that this music is too 'epic', that's how I would describe it. It wouldn't work for the scene you are describing, I don't think it would work for an interior scene.

If it's a brutal rape there needs to be a sense of urgency, particularly if you are focussing on rapist. There is no urgency in that music. If you are focussing on the victim, it depends on whether they are struggling or defeated. In either case you want music that is more rhythmic and less melodic. Short stabbing staccato notes in a repetitive pattern will work well, if you go for orchestral then the violin section is your go to. Thematically death is a release, a freedom and a hanging (on screen anyway) is a pretty clean death. The music reflects this. It is not brutal. Rape is not a release. It is just the beginning of a hell. It leads to murder or perhaps worse, a lifetime of psychological damage. Your DP is right.
