Does the latest firmware update (1.2.1) reduce the 7D's recording bitrate?

I noticed just now a drop in bitrate from around 45mbps with the previous firmware to around 35mbps for clips recorded on the 7D with the latest firmware (1.2.1). Has anyone else noticed this? Settings are still 1080/24fps with sound recording on.

It might depend on what you're shooting; if shooting a primarily static scene the bitrate will drop to as much as half of what it would be otherwise. Have you noticed these smaller file sizes in regular/normal shooting that otherwise would have delivered 45?
 
No, you may be right. So does it use a variable bitrate? I guess it would make sense to require less bandwidth for a static scene.
