Does the HVX-200 offer RT NTSC/PAL downconversion for monitoring?

Hi all:

Another naive question here, does the HVX-200 offer RT NTSC/PAL downconversion like the Z1 does? I am investing in a jib arm for the HVX and it seems to me that just to pull focus and frame, using an inexpensive NTSC monitor (that I already own two of) would be nice. Anyone know if Panasonic will let us use NTSC monitoring or only HD?

Thank Ye,

Dan

That's a good question and I wanted to know if when you edit DVCPRO-HD in FCP5 you can see your edit in realtime on a SD monitor going trough the camera with the firewire (like in DV)? Or is it like HDV where you have to buy an HD card to output your edit?

I would be willing to bet that the HVX will support both composite and Y/C output concurrent to its component (Y Pb Pr) output. Perhaps Jan will see this question and respond with a definitive answer as to this capability.

I bet it will output HD when in HD mode and SD when in SD mode.
But, just like khmuse said, let's wait for Jan to answer that.

The way the (PAL) FX1 works is that you choose your output format: Composite and S-video OR component. When in HD mode you can shoose wether the component is HD or SD. - but it can't do both Component and Composite/S-vid at the same time.
I know this is no precident or indicator what so ever of the HVX, but i'm just saying to to point out that sometimes they arn't all available at the same time.

There is an option in the HVX menu's to select the output mode of the component connector: 1080, 720 or 480. I'm pretty sure it's independant of the recording type, as this is in a completely different menu.

Not sure about the composite outputs.

But when editing DVCPRO-HD is it possible to output SD in realtime on a monitor??

THAT would be a hell of an option.
Let's hope it does.

It would save you from having to have an HD card like Decklink or the Kona in order to monitor your stuff on an external SD production monitor.

Not the ideal setup for sure, but it would save a couple of thousand dollars.
(which could be spent on a single P2 card)
