does the C300 have an autofocus button or is it strictly a manual focus camera???

I saw somewhere that the soon to be released Canon C100 has an autofocus button in front.

But owing to the C300's 50 Mbps bit rate, HD-SDI, etc, I'm leaning more towards the C300.

I didn't see any autofocus button on the front of the Canon C300 as on the C100.

Is there no autofocus button therefore on the C300?
As I plan to get a C300 with EF lens mount, will I have no autofocus capability even with Canon lenses???

No. There's no auto-focus or auto-exposure, both of which are features of the C100. The magnify button helps a lot though.

The C100 will also enable full time auto focus using ther newer STM lenses via a firmware update at some point.

MichaelWith a future firmware upgrade and Canon's EF STM lenses (available for the EF-S 18-135mm IS STM lens in the first quarter of 2013), the EOS C100 will feature continuous autofocus. When mounted on the EOS C100, supported STM lenses will keep subjects composed in the center of the frame in continuous focus. Again, this will add a much needed feature in situations that are unpredictable and don't give the user the opportunity to focus, or the chance to try the shot again. All of these features make getting professional quality footage much easier in production environments that are less forgiving.

Best,To me that is quite interesting. So far there are only 2 STM lenses, the 40 mm and 18-135 mm kit lens. Canon has said they would enable it for the 18-135.

But with a camera of the C100's quality, I can't believe they intend for people to use the same $350 kit lens bundled with the entry level T4i.

That tells me that:

1) We can expect Canon to push the STM line and video auto focus capability as increasingly integral to their still and video cameras, and

2) Canon has planned on a number of better quality STM lenses to be realeased at some point.

I think that is a good strategy.

So far the implementation on the T4i with the new Phase Detection for Live View sensor is decent for good light.

It obviously suffers a bit in lower lights if it has to rack focus. If it stays in the same range - like shooting musicians on a stage at 20' - it maintains facial recognition focus when zoomed in , for example, fairly well (at ISO 1600 and 1/50 light levels - don't know the EV.) I haven't had much chance to use it that way, but I will try to puish it at every chance as a 3rd camera to test it out.

That does help push a camera like the T4i into more "cancorder like" use. It would be interesting to see that implemented in something like the 1DX that has a processor devoted to auto focus, but for video mode.

Best,
Michael
