Does Darkness Add Noise?

I've read through Green's book. I was under the impression that Coring was used for evening out the noise caused by Detail levels.

In the book he explains that a higher amount of Coring would result in a "blob" like or blotchy appearance. Since I had Detail and V Detail set to -7, I figured that having Coring up at all would do no good for the image, and possibly do nothing but make it look worse. Am I wrong about this? Will Coring make the noise I'm seeing in the dark areas less blocky and pixelated looking?

look at the Files on the CD that come with it. If you have detail you should add coring. I would rarely encourage anyone go to - coring and if you look at the files you will understand why I say that. Try leaving coring at 0.

For anyone interested, I've found a fairly good mix for low light, with a style of noise that is very reminiscent of the DVX (at least in my short testing)

First off, I wanna disclose that my starting point for this was EDITMAN's clean setting, which in itself is excellent.

Detail -4
Detail -4
Coring -2
Chroma -2
Cine-D
Norm 1

I haven't messed with the Ped yet, but I think I'd like the blacks to crush down a bit more.

Big thanks to Editman for starting me down the right path!
