F3: Does buying a used F3 makes sense now that the FS700 is getting updated?

Isn't slog essentially uncompressed debayered raw?

Not really, because S-Log encoded footage can travel in any compressed codec. S-Log can be uncompressed too. It's a video signal.

Also, raw is usually stored as linear data (either 12 or 16bits), s-log is gamma encoded to best suit 10 or 12 bit depth so there's equal bits per stop (or an approximation thereof).

But S-Log is the closest thing to raw in a video signal, yes. The intents are the same, to defer image most image processing until post. So you kinda got it right.

..with some of the silly prices the F3 is going for now - there is no better value video camera on the market right now, period. The images are amazing and the workflow is very manageable. I am using mine on a daily basis and just love it. Sparky x

Except for Canon that's using "All the right bits" with it's 8 bit system:):)

Yep and it's funny when comparing to C300 how two cameras that are very much in the same ligue (holistically not IQ) have such different prices in the used market.

The FS700 is going to be a bazooka with the recorder and stuff on it. This picture isn't even with a long telephoto lens. It looks like a nightmare and not at all realistic hand held rig.

An F3 with a recorder can maintain a relatively compact package.
