Does anyone drink when they write?

Jon - no one's feelings got hurt here. I'm not bothered by the fact you think meditation is stupid, that's your opinion. So what. I don't care. Still, if more than "one" person reads your statement and sees it the same as others, then you have take a look at that and wonder if you didn't make yourself clear on the subject matter.

On the internet we cannot classify "tone" for it is lost in the translation without speech, without hearing. To state, "in my opinion" is only to clarify to others their thoughts, and yet you found a way to toss that considerate phrase out the window.

I don't believe anyone was offended at your statement, I just believe it was misunderstood. That's it.

Too bad it's not the third grade, I liked playing on the swings and the slide and playing kickball...

That's not my problem if someone doesn't know how to read properly. It's the same with people taking offense to this or that -- I'm not altering my behavior to make your day better, haha, sorry! If someone takes offense by something, that's their problem and I'm going to let it be their problem, not make it mine.

I certainly have the right to dislike or like whatever I feel like, regardless of how anyone else feels about it, and I am not going to apologize for my opinions about anything, especially something as silly as meditation. I'm a thoughtful guy, obviously, I majored in philosophy, but meditation doesn't really mean anything to me. It's just the notion of sitting around doing nothing pretending to clear your mind or something. That's called sleep, and I do it every night ;)

Everyone in our society pussyfoots around nowadays not to offend anyone, and it's really annoying. Like, "In my opinion, Twilight is a really stupid franchise, but that's just what I think personally." How annoying is that sentence? It should be simply: "Twilight is a really stupid franchise." It's IMPLIED by the fact *I* am writing the post that it's an opinion, and if someone is so stupid they can't figure that out they don't deserve to be posting online at all. I love it when someone says, "You are saying that like it's a fact!" Every opinion should be stated strongly, it's part of the principles of good debate actually, and you'd never get away with writing "in my opinion" in a formal paper because it's obvious it's just your opinion by the little line at the top that says "By John C. Smith" or whatever. People need to buckle up, grow a pair of testicles, and learn that the world doesn't need to worry about hurting your feelings. This isn't 3rd grade :)

we have rules here against trolling, defaming, denigrating, casting aspersions, badmouthing, careless displays of rudeness and willfully baiting others into arguments. and you know it. you certainly have the right to feel however you do. but you do not have the right to post anything you like on this privately held forum. whether or not your target is offended by some piece of bitter appraisal, is irrelevant. the mods have been charged with the responsibility of upholding a level of civility. we hold you responsible for the words you use here. generally, we don't tolerate insults no matter how sweepingly broad or pointedly specific they are. if you want a venue where you can spout off about the stupidity of everyone and everything you choose not to embrace or understand... look elsewhere.

and your absolutely right that we're not in 3rd grade here. act accordingly.

Chris - well, I'm somthin' alright. Yeah, Zak is one cool dude, says it like it is.

No. I mostly listen to instrumental music, gets me in the mood. I will try the "getting drunk" thing... Don't think it will help much, though.
