Does a Fast Wide Angle Lens Exist????

sorry

i was confused because since everything is measured in 35mm for lenses i try to think of them in terms of full frame and just imagine 30mm as my normal lens (what used to be 50mm) and everything longer is a tele and shorter is a wide.

Keep in mind that is T1.3 not F1.3
yes. Anything with T1.3 can have an aperture of f1.3 and more open. Probably to f1.2
The T stop is always slower than (less light or transmission) than the f stop.
For example a lens might be max aperture f1.7 T1.8

edit: I've heard that duclos (i think it was him) tested the tokina 11-16/2.8 and found it to have 100% transmission
so it is f2.8 T2.8. pretty rare quality in a lens

2nd edit:
found it, yeh it was duclos, here's the link, last sentence

Nice - very tempted to get that lens for doing wide angle photography. I wish there was something more like the Canon EF-S 10-22, but 2.8 through the zoom range (basically I want a lens that covers the focal range of the 16-35L on a full frame, but for crop sensors).

Canon makes a Canon EF 8–15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens and a EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM lens. The 16-35mm replaced a 17-35m F2.8 lens that you could probably find used.

Which is why I asked what would a 20mm focal view from a 5d be compared to if it were on a 7d.

A 20mm on a 7d is a 32mm on 5d , so a 20mm on a 5d to get the same wide view would be what on a 7d?

To reverse the crop factor to find the wide angle, you divide by 1.6 instead of multiplying by 1.6, 20mm on a 5D = 12.5mm on a 7D, 24mm on a 5D = 15mm on a 7D.

I've also heard people complaining about the overuse of wide angles in The King's Speech...

I always get a kick out of people criticizing stuff at this level, it reminds me a little of the some of criticism David Watkin received for shooting his exteriors on "Out of Africa" on Agfa xt320. Pretty much based on that "look" I and a lot of other people shot the hell out of that agfa stock for several years.

FYI - - at the moment the widest field of view for a eos still lens (not cine lens) that is rectilinear (not fisheye, straight lines are straight) for aps-c sensors including the t2i, 7d and 60d
is actually made by sigma. Its not the particularly fast and although its a zoom its most valuable focal length is to shoot rectilinear with no vignette at 8mm f4.5
I got a brief play with one back when B&H used to carry them

you can read more about them and buy them here

I own the Sigma 20mm F1.8....when I put it on my 5D, it's pretty wide. On my 7D and 60D, it comes in at 32mm. It's fast, but might not be wide enough for what you are after...

i use sigma 24 1.8 and 20 1.8 exdensive on 5D and t2i for wide low light and wide low depth of field shoots
20mm is just fine for apsc without distortion, wish its just a bit faster... F1.4 ... but why no one making them??
anyway with my gh2, theres no such thing as wide and fast... its the only this that is preventing me to move fully into gh2 only production
my sigma 20 1.8 is the fastest lens +adapter for gh2, but its a 40mm on gh2... as normal lens.
come on someone please make a 14mm f1.4 or f1.2 on for gh2...

Just ticked a Sigma 20/1.8 for 500 usd, yet to try it but clearly it's so-so vignetting & avarage sharpness but really i haven't found anything equal for FF, i mean there's EF24/1.4 but that's actually not a superb lens either for that x3 price...... and already got 24mm on the L-lens... 20mm quite a diff... then i'd rahter pick up a Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 for half the price than that Canon....
