Does 7D have AE Lock in Manual?

Ok I goofed up...neewbie here. My question was....

I can't seem to find a way to lock the AE in the 7D when in Manual. I thought you could do that.

Also, is there a way of holding the AE Lock in other modes when just setting up your shots without dis engaging after a minute or so? I used to have a d90 and was able to lock the AE for long peroids of time.

Any suggestions?

I haven't been following the detailed discussions on the 5DII/7D but what purpose would AE lock serve in manual mode? The camera shouldn't be adjusting anything in manual mode right?

Ae lock

Ae lock

If you are trying to lock the exposure, what I've done, in manual, is move the camera until it gets correct exposure. Then, you are given the option in manual to press the ZOOM OUT button with the (*) asterik to lock the auto exposure for the remainder of the shot.

it doesn't indicate on the screen that it locks it...in other modes you see that asterisk locked also on the LCD screen

THERE IS NO NEED FOR AE LOCK IN MANUAL MODE!!!! That's like asking how do I back up when my car is in reverse?
It's in manual mode, that means the settings STAY at whatever YOU set it to.

the problem might be that you still have auto iso turned on even though you're in manual?

Ah that could be! So I guess the answer would be hit the ISO button and turn the top dial to what you want... or rather what you think is the proper exposure, of course once you've dialed in your shutter speed and aperture.
