Glad to help!

Many have helped me at various stages of my media career, so I'm completing the circle by passing some of that on.

In today's highly-convergent media industry its increasingly important to achieve a balanced approach to media. No matter what niche you choose (indie, TV, features, etc.), and whether you are a player in a large organization or a "one man band", the formula for success is to achieve a balance in knowledge that makes you equal parts artist, techie, manager, and journalist. Boards like DVX User and trade magazines are great places to stay on top of technology - but that's just one of the three elements for a successful media career. You then have to go on location and into the edit bay to use that technology to develop your artistry. You have to practice writing skills to become a good journalist, scriptwriter, and written storyteller. Now, if you've done all of that, but you have not developed the business manager end of your skills, it's nearly impossible for anyone to view your work. You can create the best "widget" on the planet or "Gone With the Wind 2", but if you don't have the knowledge to bring it to market, it unfortunately remains the best widget, program, or film in the world - that nobody ever saw.

Think balance. You already have a desire to stay on top of technology or you wouldn't be visiting tech boards like this. Don't just endlessly chat about tech - use the tech devices to help develop your artistry and craft. Don't expect a good story or script to magically appear. Write often to develop your script/journalism skills. And finally - take the time to learn how the business end of the media business functions. Achieve a high balance as an artist, techie, manager, and journalist and your chances of reaching your media industry goals will take a quantum leap!
