Do you recommend buying a battery grip for 7d video shooting?

Hey everybody.

I'm wondering is it better to buy a battery grip when you are planning to shoot video for long, or just change the battery when it runs out?

I asking this because I'm not sure whether it is functional to add such piece between the video head and the camera or not.

Also, many reviewers mention that it is handy for traveling and sport shooting, but none of them mention video shooting.

Thanks in advance.

Yes.

2 in the clip, 2 on the charger + plenty of storage space and you should be good to go..

As well I read it helps with drawing heat away from the cam (not to sure 'bout that, but meh... i havent had overheating issues yet..

I've used one on shoots with the 5D and found that having the battery door on the back of the camera and the ability to quickly swap batteries (being able to always keep spares in the chargers and swap whenever) was really great. Not sure if 7D battery grip is the same but I assume so. It's worth noting that it does make the camera bigger and heavier and it might not work as well with many rigs...but you can always take it off!

I don't know if the 7d overheats as the t2i/550d when leaving the viewfinder on for long periods, but if it does the battery grip would also help keeping the camera cooler. The obvious downside is that the setup becomes bulkier and heavier. On the 550d I don't use it for the moment. I prefer swaping batteries. But, for now, I am not shooting video continuously for long periods of time. And I always have the option to use it if I need to.

I'd spend the money on more storage space first, but I am wanting a grip badly! As I also shoot a lot of photos too, I can greatly use it when I shoot football games, fútbol games, and baseball.

I am fairly new to photography, just picked up my first DSLR, which is a 60D. I have been seeing battery grips the past few days, and I was wondering exactly how do they work and what do they do? Is the grip a battery itself, or do you put a batter in it?
