Do you really need GENLOCK?

Hi,
Going from 300 to 300, do you really need the GENLOCK line?
It seems like it timecode locks to the TC signal just fine. I did
some tests with and without the GENLOCK, and I can't tell
the difference.
I was expecting to see some inter-frame jumps or weirdness, but at 1080p30,
I don't see it...

Are you going through a switcher? or just trying to jam sync the time codes? they do 2 different things. Many switchers these days have internal frame syncs, and do not require GENLOCK. You may be able to use it that way, but might experience am unnatural freeze during a dissolve or wipe.

If you just want to match time code for syncing in edit you do NOT need GENLOCK, but if you are trying to do a live switch then GENLOCK is the best way to go.

If you are matching time code over long periods of time , powering cycles, battery changes, etc. then you'll want to have genlock and time code jam.

not for live switch, just for later editing in a NLE. my experience is that
TC is sufficient for this purpose.

the manual made it sound like you needed both for any TC-sync, but
that's not the case at all.
