Here's a specific scenario I'd be interested on folks thoughts on. I don't normally do weddings, but had a booking for one yesterday for this August. Normally inside the church I'll have one camera locked off by the alter facing back towards the couple as they take their vows. Many UK churches are quite dark places, being several hundred years old with stained (often light blocking) windows, so there's a fair chance I'll want some extra exposure, particularly on a grey day. In this scenario would folks go with 1/25 or 1/50 shutter?
Now an 'add on' question. I've not shot a wedding since owning the FS5. There are several ways in which I could optimise the FS5's features, but obviously at the expense of each other. For example if I used it as for the aforementioned alter shot I could shoot that scene in 4K (but at 8 bit 4:2:0 on the internal codec) to allow me to punch in on faces in Post. But obviously 1080 will give me the better codec for grading and available light.
Also I could shoot most of the wedding handheld on the FS5 at 50p, thus giving me 50% slomo at any point in Post. I wouldn't be as keen to use burst mode since it's inevitable I'll miss something during the caching stage.
For greather context I'd normally shoot weddings on 3 cameras (the service at least), two well placed Nikon D5300 DSLR's as lock offs and me going handheld on the third, ie the FS5. I have various Sony glass (18-200mm PZ f3.5-6.3, 18-105mm f4, 35mm f1.8) and Nikon (70-200mm f2.8, 35mm f1.8, 50mm f1.8 Tokina 11-19mm f2.8) with a Speedbooster and standard E-mount adaptor.
The irony of my current set up is my 70-200mm f2.8 lens on one of my Nikon D5300 DSLR's will probably be more user freindly than using the same lens on the FS5. Thus I'll get image stabilisation and fast spot autofocus. So I'm really in two minds whether to use the FS5 as the alter lock off and the Nikon as the handheld. But then I throw away all the extra IQ of the FS5. If only this filming lark were simple!
unless they start dancing or fighting at the alter..
I share your concern .. I believe the best step from here is to make your feelings known to your local MP.. Johnny foreigner running amuck with fractional frame rates.. scaring the horses.. what ever next I ask..
Sadly we already had our Amerexit a while back.
