Do I need a spacer (i.e. Z-Spacer) for my baseplate for my 7D

Inorder to allow a follow focus to work with the 7D while on a baseplate with 15" rails will I need some sort of space in order to give me more height. Or is that height only gonna be needed when/if I add a mattebox to my rails.

I've seen the Zauto Z-Spacer, and I'm almost wondering do I need to purchase one of those in order for this setup to work.

I would just hooe everything up but I don't have my mattebox, and I'm without my Quick release adapter so I'm not sure if I need one but for some reason Zacuto adds height to their DSLR baseplate rigs. And from what I can see RedRock does also.

So I'm assuming that the DSLR's need additional height for the lens to raise it higher on the rails to fit the lens into the mattebox. is this correct or am I mistaken.

So if I dont have a Mattebox right this minute do I neccesarily need the baseplate now, or is that something I'll need even to get my follow focus up and running.
