DnxHD to DaVinci Resolve Workflow

Being primarily on Win7, I don't have access to ProRes. I'm trying 5DtoRGB. I've played with the settings and found 3 DnxHD options 36/75/175. When converting a primarily black MTS I found the 36 to be smallest, But the mid and high setting equal? Don't know what that means.

I'm using Driftwoods settings @178 mbs. I searched but could not find this answer. Can the Free version of Resolve 8.1 imprt and export using DnxHD? My googling showed, at least in the past that was an additional $500 license fee. But I saw a youtube from last month kind of indicating Resolve now works with Avid codecs?

So anyone know for sure?

I think they are coming out with a Win Resolve!!! Great.

My only thought about editing on a Mac was to use Resolve and Final Cut X. Since X seems like a flop. If Resolve is on the PC, I can keep my current system. Plus, Adobe looks like they have taken the lead.

If you haven't tried Warp Stabilization in After Effects CS 5, its amazing.

Hi,

Resolve Lite is currently Mac-only and is currently at 8.0. BlackMagic says the Lite updates will happen a few weeks behind the paid updates since it needs to go through its own separate QA process.

All of that said...

DNxHD requires purchase of the Avid license. Here's the link to B&H.

In 8.1, Resolve implemented a full AAF roundtrip from Avid -> Resolve -> Avid. Previously, Resolve could import an Avid AAF but it couldn't export an AAF (you'd have to render out a flat movie and then import that back into Avid).

BTW - in case you weren't aware... BlackMagic announced a Windows version of Resolve to be released in 1Q2012.

And since you mentioned it - 8.1 also allows for XML from FCPx -> Resolve. FWIW.
