DJI Osmo Handheld 4K Camera and 3-Axis Gimbal

Already read that the Inspire camera tops out at 60 fps while the Osmo version tops out at 120 fps in 1080. I am also not clear on the lenses for the X5, there is a DJI branded lens and then they show it with three third party lenses. Does the X5 take any M43 lenses or only certain models? Why is DJI selling their own branded M43 lenses when the market is already flooded with M43 lenses?

The reason to have only three lenses is that those lenses (mass distribution) are programmed into the software.. unlike the 'arcane' software on other gimbals which tune to your rig.

Overall - to me none of these products are 'production ready' until the companies communicate and support customers properly.

I've had 4 DJI products. Phantom 1, 2, the Ronin, and the Inspire. Never had any issues with any of them. Quality products at ground breaking prices. It's called, balance. Sometimes you get what you pay for. For what I've paid in each product from DJI, I've gotten serious performance back, considering the competition.

What is the smallest phone/iPod that would work as monitor? I wouldn't like to use my iPhone 6+. It's too big as it is.

Edit: iPod touch 6th gen would work. That would make for a small neat package for follow cam on skis

I wasnt really having a poke at specific brands - Ive just not really seen any gimbals that..
-have a day viewable monitor
-have sensitivity to actually follow a subject and shoot a planned shot (unlike a steadicam)
-have any form of customer support
-run off industry an standard battery investment (Ive always thought a Vlock on a belt would be the thing)

As far as I can see one can purchase the Osmo with the X3 camera but not the Osmo with the X5 camera? If so then I would have to get the Osmo X3 first and then replace the camera section to the X5?

Also battery life is only one hour of operation which isn't enough for most shoots, can the battery be swapped and how about charge time?

I like the concept but there's still a few questions to be answered.

Yes, wow, I'm excited as some of you guys are about this. It would seamlessly fit into my m43 setup and I already have the 15mm Leica to use on it.

I always get excited by a product which means I can lighten my gear (swapping for my Glidecam HD1000 and older GH3 in this case) and achieve better results more easily. Smooth tilts with a Glidecam are hard work, and when I shoot weddings and get one chance to nail a shot it's often not worth the risk.

There's a cost attached, and definitely some questions (battery life, wireless reliability, X5 visual and audio quality...) but hot damn what an exciting product. Looking forward to seeing some reviews.

I bought the entry level version. The 20mm lens, along with the deep depth of field should work great for my wedding shoots. I also shoot solo a lot which means I need to move fast. This will allow me to have glidecam/Ronin-like movement and be able to do it with a single shooter.

Has anyone seen if the timelapse feature can pan and tilt at the same time? The sample on their page shows it panning. This tool could get a lot of those "gadget shots" in our wedding videos.

Just waiting for the X5 bundle so I can use it on the ground and air. I hope they will add support for 25mm/42.5mm/45mm lens as those lens are similar size and weight, but with much more shallow dof, and PZ 14-42mm so I can use zoom on the air as well!

I keep going over this in my head... X5R plus osmo... could really change the way we move the camera for mid level/ medium crew projects.. barring a huge IQ issue from the CDNG or not supporting a longer lens.. I would use this A LOT (a lot, a lot). wireless focus (possibly even with their FFocus), wireless monitoring- wireless PAN, TILT- on a jib- same mounted to a car ( so many ways to use this in a car- vs. the old way), on a slider etc..holding it with your hands- easily mounted to whatever. the list goes on. This could take a lot of pain and setup for smaller crews and provide a vast array of shots..alongside classic traditional tripod shooting.
and.. 4k RAW CDNG.. plus 60p RAW CDNG 1080... Like I said, we have not seen the full results of the IQ and lens support just yet but once we do I will be first in line.

Well the thing doesnt isolate XYZ motion in any way, we have no idea if the pan tilt control will work with the sort of sensitivity required to operate the camera and also the control of focus is an unknown not to mention using a phone to monitor in the sun and a dodgy wifi connection to control the whole banana.

Apart from that is will indeed 'change the way we move the camera'

I agree - this is the future of moving cameras.

It's proprietary - but that is starting to matter less and less.
We all know a camera doesn't have to be bigger than the sensor box, and image quality is starting to "even out" between all the makers.

The last issue is lenses, and the X5 is getting into the realm of "user choice" so it's closer now than ever before.

agreed, I guess im skipping to the finished tweaked version down the road in my head too. I felt the same "thats it!" when I saw the D90 advert in 2007- even though that camera was a mess, it was a symbol of what lie ahead.

OSMO tutorial how to "UNBOX" the OSMO. LOL! Seriously, its an official video tutorial. And it got 2 parts! :D

"first, remove the tape..." LOL!

Either the Chinese have a very warped sense of humor or this was made for English as a third language speakers. The guy is really strange, it's like he is a human Ken doll brought to life to walk you through new Osmo ownership. One of the most bizarre corporate videos I have ever seen. I'll have to rewatch it when my Osmo comes, I want to make sure that I get the unboxing right ;-)

DJI inked a deal with Walmart to make inventory mgmt and delivery drones... this must be part of their new corporate "Wal-Mart" image lol
