DJI Osmo Handheld 4K Camera and 3-Axis Gimbal

Man, this is so lovely... I want one badly! Anyone knows if camera will be detachable from rig? (that ball only)

I've been thinking of adding a gimbal but until now it has looked to complicated. This is just in the direction I would go as a user - integrated camera and gimbal without the fuss when mixing the two from odd parts.

To set it up like they did in the 50's shoot your looking at the X5 series raw so $5,500 & the $695 for the Osmo and $25 for the accessory to hold the monitor...etc... Not a inexpensive set up in my opinion.
You would not use the Osmo 12 mp sensor on a serious project.

All good things come to those that wait. Patience in a virtue. This little system is going to rock.

I also have this gut feeling that DJI with their X3 camera and now X5 camera will soon come out with possibly a rival camera system to compete with BMD. I think they are in this game to have every aspect covered for indie shooters from high quality drone shooting, handheld gimbal shoot to professional tripod mounted shooting. If they were to design an S35 sensor camera based off the capabilities of the X5 M4/3, you might see a camera that is just a shell that would be controlled and viewed with a smartphone or tablet.

Mark my words. Watch out BMD.

They used the X5 pro. They never said they used the X5R (RAW version). I don't see any link to an SSD device for RAW recording. I'm gonna say they used the H.264 X5 recording.

Oh Dusty!....you are such an alarmist!

Perhaps your right, if the X5 pro's H.264 grades well then it could be a more affordable and do able set up. I guess that's what it would come down to for me, it would definitely put it in a more reasonable price range. They have peaked my interests.

I'll say that the X5 will grade pretty darn good. I get decent looks using the X3 camera on the Inspire 1. I think the X5 will have a better resolving power due to the M4/3 chip. Would be nice to know if they can up the X5 to at least 100Mbits though instead of the 60Mbit.

Here is some pretty wacky decently graded stuff I've shot with the X3 though all variations of the cameras firmware (from before they had a LOG profile to other stuff like the sharpness settings. When first launched the camera was either way too sharp at 0 sharpness to way too soft at -3. They have since tweaked that so some shots look soft, some sharp, some way too sharp).

Well that's great and all, but it's the same situation as with gopro - in the end, it all comes down to what you use it for. Personally, I'm interested in gear for narrative filmmaking. Which simply means, it's all about the image I can get from the camera - yes, I appreciate the stabilization and a million other things, but if the image is not up to snuff, then it's not going to be an option. I mean, why do people buy a Sony F55 or FS7, or an Alexa, or even something like JVC LS300 and so on? If you can accomplish all you need with a gopro or DJI Osmo, more power to you. That said, I'm shocked at how much camera IQ you get from these little things - SHOCKED. And it's just the beginning - the tech is evolving at warp speed. Every time I think I've sorted everything out gear-wise, I blink, and there's something new on the horizon. Wow.
