DIY Musicvideo (thanx do dvxuser)

Hey guys! Thought I share our video we made with help from this forum.

Background: My band let go off our old label after the second album due to the crashing music business. Releasing the third album on our own indielabel instead. Before we have had budget for musicvideos but this time not so much :)

So with my D90 and some borrowed lights we set out to do it ourselves!
Thanx to all the great users at dvxuser I've learned to control the D90 and get it to work in the post-process.

Especially thanx to Mattsand for the plugins to Final Cut!

Hope you enjoy it!

Great job!

You have some really nice shots, and the color correction (plugins) def give you an added air of professionally shot feel to it.

Can't say i love the music but its not bad.

I think this is what its all about, going out and making something with what you have available and maximizing your creativity to create an end result far beyond what most people would guess you are capable off.

Have you done any video stuff before? What is your background? Either way, very impressive, I could see this on MTV and never know it was made with a sub $1,000 camera and a couple of cheap lights.

make some more!

Nice work. I like the song myself. If this is your first video you did a great job. I really like the look of Nikon video!

Thanx man!
Yeah could've spend some more time on the color correcting. But tight deadline and yadayada :)
Most important was just to get it out.

Yes I work with post-production on a smallsized productioncompany here in Sweden.

I have a few more videos coming up, recently bought a flycam-5000 actually! Works pretty good with the D90.

I think that is the best thing about D90, you actually get your **** together and do stuff! :)

great work..i like the grading also and the camera movements..one question, if you had to do it again what would you have changed, im asking this because im also looking into shooting my first music video and would like to learn from others..

Thank you all!! Makes me happy :)

What I could have done different if I did it again?
hm hard question.. this was really an impromptu thing without planning. Just headed to the rehersal space and started shooting on the fly.

So what I'm gonna do better next time is plan a lot more. I think D90 can be really powerfull if you plan the shots!

I really like the tone of these shots. I'm sure people will criticize me for this, but...I REALLY like the overall "look" of the D90. I wish Nikon would give us manual control and wish we could see more progressive products from them, but I REALLY like the look of the image from the D90. Canon's product always looks too sharp. I know it's easier to blur an image than it is to sharpen one, but still....I like the look of the D90.

Quick question: What did you use to adjust the image? (Exactly which magic bullet series/filters?) I REALLY like the look of your footage! VERY NICE.

That looked so much better than I thought it was going to when I opened the thread. Congrats on your results and good luck to all your bandmates.

Oops my bad! I didn't use magic bullet for CC.
Just colormatched them with the regular three-point CC in final cut and adding more contrast.
What I did use magic bullet for was the scratches, flicker, vignette, blurvignette, weaves and shaking the picture around.
The small plugins that came with the package outside of the magic bullet software.

I tried to match the rest of the footage to a shot in the second chorus on just the singer. The shot itself got blue because of me using a ND8 filter on the 50mm(forgot to change WB). But I liked the look on that so I tried to match the rest up with that one! :)
