Someone might find this useful. I mounted a FIIO headphone amp to the side of my TrusMT LCD Viewfinder. The reason I did this is because I needed a compact camera. I was using a shoulder rig but it attracts too much attention on the street. So I decided to go for a pistol grip setup like the old Bolex style. At first I used different cables to monitor the audio thru the FIIO but the cables got too long & unwieldy. I didn't like having to clip the FIIO to my body and having a cable going to the FIIO and another cable to my ears. This configuration allows me to make it easy to plug earbuds into the side of camera.

I'll link to all the parts I used from Ebay
Parts needed
1. Canon AV Cable: I cut this cable and soldered a spare 1/8" jack. This is better than the Sescom cable cause theirs is too long and its a female connector at one end. Also, you don't need that ferrite bead they leave on their cable. That's for video or usb & we'll only be needing the audio L-R + 2 ground. The soldering is a little tough because the wires are so thin but I used a clamp. You need to solder 4 cables L-R-G1-G2, then, make sure they don't touch each other. I slipped some plastic between them before I heat shrink tubed everything together. BTW make sure you slip the heat shrink tube before you solder not after or else you'll have to redo it.

2. 1/4" tripod adapter & cold shoe clamp: I used both of these so I can easily take the FIIO amp off and recharge it. You don't really need both if you glue the FIIO directly to cold shoe and screw it to the TrustMT Viewfinder. But having the clamp makes it easy to remove the FIIO unit.

You can also use a mini ball head tripod mount if you want to mount it in another direction. I tried this too but I didn't like it as much

3. FIIO Headphone amp: Remove the clip with a jeweler's screwdriver. The cold shoe should fit in perfectly in between the groove. Glue with epoxy

4. TrustMT Viewfinder. This viewfinder is expensive but IMO it's worth it. The great thing about this viewfinder is that theres a 1/4" screw on the side and I could use this mount the FIIO. You can use the Letus Hawk viewfinder as well but it's too expensive for me

My next project is to rig up a start/ stop cable to the pistol grip. Have no idea how to do tho
