I saw a video on Cheesycam where I guy named Rod used a regular aluminum ladder as a guide track for his DIY dolly platform. This is my version of that. I wanted it to be longer and lighter so I built mine from some light pine scrap pieces I had around.

Cool. But it looks like the pine thingies sag in the middle, no? A ladder seems more rigid. Maybe it just looks that way. A better test would be to slap some long lens on the G2 and then see if there's any vibration with the movement.

It might look that way the the video seemed steady to me. I do have to use 3 saw horses when I use mine. So, yeah, an aluminum ladder is more durable and rigid to be sure, but quite a bit heavier than the thing I built.:)

That is more practical, but I don't think I have the engineering chops(or I'm lazy)to build that thing. It's a great idea all the same. I saw that too not long ago on cheesycam.

As for the long lens...That's not a bad idea. It is really really smooth as you can see in the test, with the new wheels, but would it look that steady with a really long shot? Hmmm? It might; I'm not sure. Maybe I try that, though I'm not sure a dolly is made for really long tele shots. I have it in my head that they are better for medium to close up things. Who knows.
