DIY IndieSlider...

Square W rail version

Square W rail version

Hello, about to do an order but see a square W rail version with 20% less resistance, has anyone tried it?
Would there be any benefit to trying it?

Great forum.

Thanks in advance-

Just ordered my parts from IGUS. Sent in the order with the numbers mentioned in the OP...but when i got my order confirmation they have it bundled as this...

Name: 16mmCamSlidr
Part Number: W16CAMSLDR-A

It's $159 before shipping. And have a dedicated page for "camera sliders" as a use for their product HERE.

This may have been mentioned already, I did search, but this thread is HUGE.

Cool, didn't know they have a dedicated page for that now.. I just followed the OP's advice and called them.

Anyway, I finally got around to putting my slider together! Tapping the holes were easy, however, I tapped the carriage slightly crooked =/ A minor problem because I don't really notice anything on camera. And I'm sure the carriage without the bearing won't cost much if I ever decide to get another.

Here's a pic.

Overall, I think this slider is great. It is my first, so I can't compare it to anything else but I can tell you that the quality is superb. The sliding action could be bit a smoother but at this price, i'm not complaining. THANKS ZAZA!

If it's not sliding smooth, realign the bearings. Once I did that, I could not BELIEVE what a difference it made in sliding.

I mean, the way it is now is not THAT bad but I wouldn't mind it being a little smoother. I've tried realigning it myself and it just seems to make it worse.. So what I do is keep two of them slightly loose and that seems to help. Are you tightening all the bolts?

Yep, I tighten the bolts. When I tried to use the bolts a little loose, I found it was binding and harder to move. Once I got them aligned right following Igus advice, it has been perfect really ever since.

I just built mine a couple of days ago and have realigned the bearings as per the instructions, but it still seems to "bind" - stick in parts - as I slide.

Couple of questions about getting the best slide:

Is it best to slide back the carriage multiple times, back and forth, to build friction and "smoothness" before attempting a camera move?

Is there any validity in using Pledge on the rails, or will that just ruin the dry bearings?

Is it best to leave the carriage bolts only slightly tight so they can give a little?

THanks!

Then it's not adjusted correctly...try again.

You shouldn't have to. Again, it doesn't sound like you aligned the carriage properly.

It's a good way to clean the rail every now and then. Spray a little on a cloth and wipe down the rail...then wipe again with a clean, dry cloth. It won't hurt the bearings.

No, you shouldn't have to leave any of the bolts loose if the carriage is aligned properly. Please try again and go slow... loosen all bolts with the carriage on the track and slide it back & forth a few times. With downward pressure on the center of the carriage, tighten one bolt, just till it's tight. Again, slide the carriage back & forth a few times, then, with pressure on the center of the carriage, tighten the opposite bolt lightly. Repeat this, tightening the bolts opposite each other (start with the upper left, then the lower right, then the upper right, then the lower left) until everything is tight and it slides nice & smooth.

Having the bearings slightly loose causes them to bind, I played around with that. As Zaza said, you want them tightened. I get no binding at all with mine, slides great and have never used anything to clean any part of it.

This morning i was having this issue...
i think my ZAZA"GOD"SLIDER wasn't working perfectly from a while, so i had the bad idea to remove the carriage and accidentally i moved a little bit one of those 4 metal objectes that stay on the bottom of the carriage(how do u call them?). Then i tried to set the carriage back to the slider and seemed to work properly. After a few shots i'eas looking in the slider and i found a lot of grey little "tongues" as the slider is eating the bearings. What could it happened? The slider now doesn't slide like before

thx for your help guys

I'm not really understanding what you mean by "tongues"?

You should be able to take the carriage off the rail and put it back on no problem....I do it for every shoot. Follow the instructions in the first post and align your carriage.
Or download them here: http://www.zazaslider.com/support.html
Those 'things' that hold the bearings are called "Glide Blocks".

I'll be glad to help...so please tell me more about the problem.
