DIY IndieSlider...

Richard, Is that your slider in the video? If so, it would be great if you could put up (point us to) some pics and detail on how you're using the articulating arm with it.

I'm pretty sure this isn't Richard...so I'm jumping in, as this has been talked about before.

They used an arm to get the camera as low as possible (still upside down). You'll notice that the operator would need to keep pressure on the carriage to keep the rail from tipping over and to keep the carriage from binding with all the weight (called a 'moment') to one side of the plate.

Another option would be to simply flip the slider, shoot upside down and flip it back in post.

*also, notice the simple brake knob on the pillow block (glide block) opposite his thumb. Instructions for this are in the first post.

just placed my order a few minutes ago. They just received a new shipment of parts, it will be here by Wednesday. Really excited to get it. Thanks for everyones help in making these post!

So do we officially refer to the DIY IGUS rail slider as ZazaSlider now?

Seeing as how it's his design and he's FREELY shared it with absolutely everyone without trying to make any profit for himself... I don't see why anyone would object or try to take credit for the design that they're using.

I'm not objecting. Just want to know what to call the thing, because it used to be "DIY IndieSlider".
ZazaSlider works fine with me.

Sorry, I;ve just seen other people take the design and then go ahead and call it their own, with their own names. A couple of guys even made their own little stickers to go onto it. And it was without a doubt the ZazaSlider.

Truth is, given that the innovations are basically "New Use" ( to use patent parlance) of off the shelf Igus components, they are whatever anyone wants to call them. Zazasliders if you are Zaza making the modifications, PortaDolly, if I make the modifications, GlideTrack if ... you get the picture.

It's just good manners instead of prancing around taking credit for a modification that they themselves did not originate. It was a clear case of "I made this, i totallly came up with this".

Yep... waiting for samples to test. Should be cool as it has both a roller AND the sliding sleeve bearing.

Got mine a month ago and slipped them into the 4' rail platform.
- more audible friction than the plain bearings
- smoother more 'roller like' tracking
I reckon that with some break-in period these will become must have upgrades.
Lemme know if you need pics.

No problem, I'm meeting with the igus rep Wednesday...he has some for me and I already have pictures...thanks though.

...or maybe it doesn't matter...sounds like they might be a good upgrade?
