DIY IndieSlider...

When I started shooting the yellow Challenger, a family with a million kids swarmed over it.
I waited about 15 minutes to get some clean shots but quit with the first 3 shots I got- that's why there's only 3 shots of it in the finished piece. :furious3:

Thanks again, Dave.
Glad the riser makes sense now (see photo). Any other questions, let me know.

I just got my WS-10-80 rail, going to home depot to get parts to make it work on the bogen 516 head.

I got tired of waiting on the back order, so I took what they had in stock.
She also threw in some other bushings. I have grey bushings and yellow ones.

This is the WS-10-80
Wider, with no holes in center.
Double rowes of holes near the rail.

IT is mounted to the Bogen 516 Quick release plate for easy removal.
All 3/8" bolts, and threads.
Bolts for quick release had to be shaved to get the plate into the head.
Seems very stable and I can also boom and circle.

Here's my 700mm slider/shooter. 700mm, 16-60mm rail, 150mm carriage w/brake, ZazaSlider Feet/Handles.
I just threw the DVX 35mm rig on there for the fun of it!

Hi Guys

Need some help ideas regarding fitment of the igus AKA Zaza slider to my Manfrotto 190CXPRO3. It is a bit cheeky but I'm in South Africa and did manage to find the igus rail W10-40 rail and 10-40-10 carriage from igus here. With the exchange rate as it is thing do tend to get a bit expensive here :( I'm putting a second mortgage on the house for those lovely Zaza rail ends lol, soon they will be mine :)

Anyway I have a 1 meter igus rail but strangely the the holes (eight in total) are positioned in a different way compared to other examples I'm seen with the same length. This means I have to drill and tap a new hole in the centre of the rail. Like some have mentioned here I'm a bit wary of that because of the constant on off and I'm worried that eventually the rails hole will lose it's thread. The total height of the 10mm thread on the tripod is around 7mm total rail thickness 6mm so I was thinking of just drilling a 10mm hole right through and securing the other end with a low profile nut to the rail ?

I've looked through the thread as much as I can and see other people using two heads with quick release plates. This is a option but I'm on a tight budget and will be mounting my 701 directly to the carriage.

I've never tapped a hole before and I'm just worried I screw the rail up. I've looked at the instruction over at your site Zaza regarding tapping of the holes. Would they be the same for my tripods thread not sure if 10mm is the standard on these sort of things.

Hope that all makes sense, thanks in advance.

What you might want to do is just get a quick release system like this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/241139-REG/Manfrotto_577_577_Rapid_Connect_Adapter.html

Mount the plate to the bottom of the rail and the adapter to the tripod...then you can just slide the rail on & off with ease...no need for another head.

Don't be worried about tapping a hole, it's really easy. Google "tapping a hole" and you'll see what's involved...really, it's very easy, especially on the 10-40mm rail.

10mm is really close to 3/8"...but you would want to make sure you tap the hole the same as the stud on your tripod. (if you want to screw the rail directly on the tripod) I've had my rail for over two years now and have screwed it on & off the tripod hundreds of times...nothing has srtipped and it's as solid as the day I tapped it!

Go forth and slide! Hope this helped, feel free to contact me directly if you need more help: zaza@zazaslider.com

I can also help get you any type or size of rail...pre-drill & tapped, or not... whatever you need.

So what are your thoughts about the run and gun shots with a zazaslider? Is better to get One or 2 heads with the Quick release stuff? Holla and happy easter!

Other Q: the quick release fits on both configurations (1 or 2 heads) right?
thank you hermanos

The 700mm rail works great for run & gun. Rests nicely on the shoulder. I'm looking into a nice shoulder pad that will make it even more comfortable. Another thing that is cool, is that the rear ZazaSlider foot acts a a bit of a counter-weight! I'll post some footage soon...just crazy busy these days.

I don't know what you're asking here...do you mean 1 or 2 plates for the QR system? ....or actual fluid heads?

@groveChuck - Nice video!

What sort of experience are zaza users having in cold weather? I shot some stuff in Lake Tahoe last weekend (clear skies, sunny, spring like conditions) and the rails were cold, very cold. I found it bit of a challenge to get a super smooth run. I made sure the rails were wiped down and clean and adjusted.

Anyone else experience this and is there a fix/work-around for working with the zaza slider in colder weather?

I wish you said something a month ago when we got a few feet of snow... I would have tested it out. I've used my slider in very cold spaces, but never out in the snow. It worked fine. I'm thinking that maybe (or if) some moisture got on the rail or on the bearing surface, because of the extreme cold, it froze and might have cause uneven sliding? (Just a guess) Was there any chance of that happening when it was wiped down?

Hi Please forgive me if this has been covered already!

I have a Libec TH-M20 tripod system with the screw coming out of the bottom of the head. The tripod has a 65mm bowl. From what I have read, the Manfrotto bowl adapters will not work with this tripod because it's 65mm, not 75mm. Is this true? Do I need a whole new tripod and head to get a flat screw mount for the zaza? Any Libec zaza people here to help?

Also wondering, is it possible to just simply mount the zaza to the quick release libec head and then just purchase another head for the camera up top?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on what you're trying to do... if you want slides and dolly shots, you don't need to mount the rail to a head...but if you want sudo-crane/jib shots, you will need 2 heads.
