DIY IndieSlider...

Is anyone about to order?
I will pay an extra $50 (+ costs & shipping, of course) if anyone wants to double their order & assemble & ship it.

Any takers?

Thinking about putting some handles on my slider so I can turn it into a shooter.

This has already been tried (you have to look back in the thread).... didn't workout too good. I have a cure coming down the pipe if you can wait about 3 weeks.:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I searched for "shooter" "shoulder" "handle" "clamp" and others but I could not find any reference to someone trying it out. I did find Martin Koch's Spider Slider but no word on whether he had tried it.

The Glidetrack shooter design looks simple enough - add a brake to the shuttle and quick clamps on the sides of the end risers. Is there more to it than that? Like I say, I have not seen one in person.

Well, to add more fuel to the fire, I had an Opteka Hands-Free Camcorder Shoulder Support lying around (never used much it cos it sucks) and just attached the rail to it - there's some possibilities here!

Its cheap enough to try in the intervening three weeks. Can't wait to see what you have done!

well again, i just not understand why you would purchase an expensive equipment made to slide nicely and turn it into a blocked piece of aluminium.
there are thousand of way of doing better, lighter and cheaper, unless you got tons if spare igus parts .
sometimes it is nice and funny to use something for a different purpose it has been created, but only
when it is an "upgrade", not a "downgrade".

Hey,

Why hasn't anyone did a GROUP BUY? Wouldn't it be cheaper and possibly faster?

Anyone here using the RED One cam on this and what do they recommend? ZaZa slider...I would guess would be fine...but I'm worried of the weight?

thanks.

What? I have NO idea what you're saying here?

igus is very fast...and reasonable. The ZazaSlider just became SO popular (besides Glidetrack, T-jib, Kessler, etc. using the same parts), they need to up production. I receive my igus orders in one day here in NY.

As fas as the weight... that's not a problem at all. You can use the 16/60 or get the 20/80 for a wider and even stronger rail. The original (16/60) is rated up to 500lbs., if your rig is heavier than that, you can get single rail and custom build one.

I'm still playing with the "WiderSlider"...

But I'm in the middle of working on some other goodies for the ZazaSlider that will be available in about 3 weeks!

Thanks...any info on a crank system on one end of the track? I saw somewhere a company building one but they what like $700 for it. Anyone of a DIY solution?

I thank you for posting this info and continuing to help us Non-Igus gurus trying to figure out their website? Confusing.

Seriously...you should of make a deal with Igus or be the sales agent...for the company...they must of sold millions of the ZaZa slider.

Cheers to you...!!!

Thanks.

I've toyed with the thought of using a screw drive from an old garage door opener as the drive mechanism. Haven't done it yet though.

If I only had a nickel for every dime they made! LOL.

Kessler Crane (a sponsor of DVXuser) makes the pocket dolly and it has a crank. Personally, I don't see the need, all my slides are manual....and I've never had a problem. You can also use a bungee cord or rubberband attached to the carriage for a smooth start if you're having problems. Anything with a crank & belt drive is going to be more expensive.

What length of bolt are people using to attach the Velbon PH-368 head? Any links (especially to UK retailers?) Thanks, Dom

First, according to the specs, that head attaches via a 1/4"-20 , so instead of drilling and tapping a 3/8"-16 in the carriage... make it 1/4". Then try a 3/4" to 1" bolt and you should be fine.

Yes.. that's the right idea. You don't have hardware stores over there? That seems expensive for a little bolt? (they cost $.31 each in my villiage hardware store).

One thing to note being in the UK. Just make sure you get a bolt with the same thread size as the head. Over here it would be 1/4" 20 threads per inch.... you would be in millimeters (I think)...check to see what it is on the velbon.

I read the entire thread some time ago, so if I missed this info somehow, please forgive me.

For those of you mounting a large head and possibly an entire shoulder rig directly to the track, what size plate are you using, the standard 100mm or the 150mm? I would think the extra two inches of the 150mm would be better suited to larger rail rigs or longer lenses. Thanks! And yes the 16mm stock is backordered at least a month to 6 weeks.

I just ordered the 16mm without holes today and the 150mm carriage. It ships out tomorrow I have machine shop around the corner. Anyone who doesn't have the skill or know how I suggest searching machine shop in Google local and they will probably do it for free.

With holes- out of stock
without holes - ready to ship.

I would go with the 150mm carriage, and you might want to consider the 20mm rail as it is wider and will offer a better balance for smooth slides with a big rig.

I would also say get the rail without the holes, it's actually better. All you have to do is find the center, drill & tap the hole... very easy.

I don't know about free, but yes, you could get a machine shop to drill & tap a few holes...then again, you can probably get it done at your local hardware store, Home Depot or Lowe's. It's really easy.

For Australia & New Zealand: "We have a distributor in New Zealand - Automation Equipment Ltd. - +62-7-847-2082
But no direct office - They could order from us via credit card and we could ship parts to them."

This is a SENSATIONAL thread, thanks all for keeping it going and most importantly to Zaza for kicking it off!
Has anyone purchased the 2 main igus parts from the NZ office listed above? As i wondered what the overall experience / delivery time / costs and postage ended up being?
Thanks
jason
